Obituary

Garth Earl Jensen passed away peacefully on June 18, 2026, surrounded by family.

He was born July 25, 1946, in Ogden, Utah, to Virginia Chadwick and H. Wayne Jensen. He was the youngest of three children, Larry (Carol) and Judith who passed in infancy. Each one preceded him in death and was deeply missed.

Raised in North Ogden on his grandfather’s farm, Garth learned early the value of hard work as well as the joy of outdoor adventuring. He knew every critter, cave, dirt road, and viewpoint in the area.

The family service stations in Ogden provided additional opportunities for life skills. Working alongside Wayne and Larry, he developed a love of automobiles, mechanic work, and helping people; skills that would remain with him throughout his life.

As a boy, Garth attended North Ogden Elementary School, a block from his grandparents’ home. His mother often lamented how frequently he skipped school to spend the day with the grandpa he affectionately called “Dad.” His own father was playfully called Pop. Both played valuable roles in his life.

Garth graduated from Ben Lomond High School and immediately joined the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict, attaining the rank of Corporal. Here, he honed his keen eye and became a skilled marksman. He often joked about spending two years in the brig aboard the USS Midway, conveniently leaving out the fact he held the keys.

In August of 1970, he married Patsy L. Stone. They made their home in North Ogden and were later sealed in the Ogden Utah Temple. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, service, and hard work.

Garth worked at Hill Air Force Base until his retirement in 2001. He was known for his strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to doing a job well. He held high standards and believed anything worth doing was worth doing right.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Garth served in many callings. He and Pat also completed a four-year Church Service Mission at the Ben Lomond Stake Camp, where they formed cherished friendships and found great joy in serving others.

Garth possessed an extraordinary eye for detail and a remarkable memory. Whether recalling roads traveled decades earlier, diagnosing a tricky mechanical problem, or noticing something everyone else had overlooked, he saw the world a little differently. Family members often marveled at his ability to remember directions, landmarks, and tiny details long after others had forgotten them.

If something had an engine, there was a good chance Garth could repair it. Cars, lawnmowers, snowblowers, and small engines regularly found their way into his hands. He loved to tinker and delighted in solving problems. He had a gift for understanding how things worked and a willingness to share that gift generously.

Garth loved being outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, camping, exploring, and nearly any activity allowing him to spend time with his faithful pups, family, and friends. He never met a pup who didn’t immediately adore him.

Garth will be remembered for his playful spirit. He was an expert at throwing snowballs, shooting water guns, and shining flashlights at precisely the right, or more aptly, wrong moment for unprepared victims of his teasing.

Although years of hard work took a toll on his body, he never stopped serving. He was a man of integrity, generosity, determination, and quiet kindness.

Above all else, Garth loved his family.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Jensen, and his children, Toni (Bart) Cook, Brent (Martha) Jensen, Gwen (Juancarlos) Santisteban, Lora (Matt) Hancock, and Cori Jensen.

Grandchildren: Jeremy (Blake) Cook, Andrew (Jaquelyn) Cook, Spencer Cook, Katie (Colton) Lloyd, Sabrina (Morgan) McEwen, Brittney Jensen, Jaxon Jensen, Madyson Jensen, Emmalee Santisteban, Olivia Santisteban, Jakobe Santisteban, Mason Hancock, Cody Hancock, Tanner Boudreau, and Roman Curtis.

Great-grandchildren: Casey Cook and Evalynn Cook.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Applegate Hospice for the compassionate care and support provided during Garth’s final days.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Leavitt’s Mortuary & Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th Street, Ogden. A viewing will be held from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Ben Lomond Cemetery, 526 E 2850 N, North Ogden.
