George Nephi Sprunt, Jr.'s Obituary

George Nephi Sprunt, 62, passed away Monday, November 9, 2015 at McKay Dee Hospital as a result of a prolonged battle with liver disease. George was born in Ogden, Utah on November 16, 1952 to George Sprunt, Senior and Zelma Bailey (Bennett). He was one of seven children from this union and had one half-brother from his mothers later marriage. He graduated from Bonneville High School in 1971 and subsequently joined the Air Force. He was a Vietnam War Era Veteran and served in Alaska and Arizona. Upon return to Ogden, George enrolled at Weber State College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering and a Minor in Mathematics. He worked for Rockwell and Boeing for 30 years as an Electronic Engineer in the missile guidance program. In January 1991, George married Antoinette (Andy) Valent and became step-father to her three children, John, Leslie, and Leighann and grandfather to Paige and Olivia. George was a man of many talents and varied interests. He loved the mountains of Utah and often stated he would not live where there were no mountains. He loved to fish, both locally and on his annual trips to Alaska. He was a student of MPE Martial Arts and practiced faithfully while still physically able. In his younger days he was an avid dancer and once won a 1st place trophy in ballroom dancing. He was a focused chess player and began teaching the game to his granddaughter, Paige when she was three years old. At 15, she is now an accomplished chess player. George served multiple times as a judge for the Davis County School District Science Fair. He also was a gun enthusiast and collector. Often and sometimes to the frustration of family and friends, George would take the opposite stance on an issue/position, whether he agreed with it or not, just to get a response. Discussions with him were often challenging and thought provoking. George is survived by his wife, Antoinette (Andy) Valent-Sprunt, step-children, John Valent, Leslie and Tony Smith, and Leighann and John Honn, and grandchildren, Paige Valent and Olivia Smith. Additional surviving family members include his mother, Zelma Bailey, brother, Gary Bailey, sisters, Faye Hope, Lynda Vega, and Janet Baptistte. George was preceded in death by his father, George Sprunt, Sr., sister, Tina Heath, and brothers, Scott Sprunt and Sam Bailey.
