Geraldine “Geri” Gooch Andersen's Obituary

Geraldine Geri Gooch Andersen December 3, 1936 March 24, 2017 Our Mom and Grandma passed away peacefully on March 25, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimers. She was born December 3, 1936 in Nampa, Idaho, to Melba Fugal and Porter Melvon Gooch. There family moved to the Gooch farm in Harrisville, Utah, in 1941. Geri learned the values of family and hard work as she plowed fields, hauled hay and milked cows. That is where she met the love of her life, Grant Christian Andersen, while he was working for her father. Geri was an excellent student and an outgoing young woman. She graduated from Weber High School in 1955. She and Grant were married August 12, 1955 in the Logan LDS Temple. Grant passed away on May 21, 2010, after spending 55 wonderful years bowling, traveling, camping and farming together. She looked at his photo and cussed him out daily for not taking her to Heaven with him. Her long wait is over, they are together again. Geris many talents served others well as she enjoyed her callings in Sunday School, Primary, Cub Scouts and Relief Society. She enjoyed working with children very much and always wanted a large family. She also was a wonderful cook and loved to work in her yard and garden. Being a very intelligent women and a hard worker Geri did well at whatever she pursued. Along with working on the Andersen Farm in Harrisville, she worked at the lunch counter at Stewarts Drug Store until her daughter was born in 1956. Her career as a Tax Examiner for the Internal Revenue Service ended in 1968 when her first son came along. Geris favorite career was that of a wife and mother and she mothered many children that were not even her own. At the time her third child became a part of her family, she was working for Harrisville City. She served Harrisville well as she worked as the City Recorder and Treasurer for many years. Geri followed in her fathers footsteps as she served the community on the Harrisville City Council, and spent a term as the Assistant Mayor of Harrisville. She was very proud of the improvements she was able to make as the City of Harrisville came to be. She met many lifelong friends there and hated to leave when she retired in the early 1990s to take care of her husband. Geris greatest joy was her grandchildren, well, actually everyones grandchildren. She loved them and could be seen often working and playing with them. She was a Grandma that put new meaning to the phrase If Mom Says No, Ask Grandma!, she loved spoiling them all. Bowling was Geri and Grants favorite sport and they enjoyed bowling with friends and family in many leagues. They participated in many bowling tournaments in Reno, Nevada as well. This wonderful, wife, mother, sister and friend has touched many lives. Her compassion and humor will be missed by all. Geri is survived by one daughter, Pam Graham (Dan Wyman); two sons, Darwyn and Kory Andersen; eight grandchildren, Nathan, Matthew (Rita), Casey (Alicia) and Dustin (Kayla) Graham, Erik (Molly), Logan (Tawni), Araya and Chelsea Andersen; nine great-grandchildren, Rayvin, Taylor, Kenydee, Braxton, Izzabella, Kymber and Gracie May Graham, Casey and Rokzen Andersen; and one great-great-grandchild due in August. She is also survived by three brothers, Melvon (Shirey) Gooch, Gaylon (Billy) Gooch, and Bill (Dianna) Gooch; one brother-in-law, David (Theresa) Andersen; and one sister-in-law, Janet Hadley (Brad) Taylor; as well as many nieces and nephews. She has been reunited in Heaven with her parents, her husband, two grandchildren, Damen and Aubrey Andersen; a son-in-law, Mark Graham; a daughter-in-law, Christi Andersen; two sisters, Carol Joyce Davies and her husband Robert; Melba Jo Shuman and her Husband, Warren; two sisters-in- law, Verna Knight and Linda Gooch; four more brothers-in-law, Danny Knight, Vernon Andersen, Sam Hunsaker and Terry Hadley; as well as her special niece, Tricia Gooch.
