Gladys LaRue Jensen Seamons, age 90, peacefully passed away on August 10, 2015 overlooking her beloved Bear Lake. She was born on April 3, 1925 to Bert Ellis and Annie Smith Jensen in Hyrum, Utah, the fourth of six children. Gladys graduated from South Cache High School in 1943 and received her degree in nursing, graduating from the University of Utah and LDS Hospital in 1946. She married her High School sweetheart Arthur E. Seamons in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on December 19, 1946.
Gladys worked as an RN in several healthcare institutions in the Ogden area for 45 years. She received additional schooling from Montana State University and NYU School of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She pioneered Rehabilitation in the State of Utah and helped establish the first Rehab Unit and was the Director of Physical Medicine beginning in 1964. She lectured and conducted seminars teaching Rehab Nursing techniques in Utah and Idaho. She served for 37 years on the Multiple Sclerosis boards for both Utah and the city of Ogden and was a recipient of the National M.S. "Hope Chest" Award. She was on the Medical Advisory Board over Physical Therapy and Family Education and Service. She conducted an M.S. Support group in the Ogden Area for 10 years and volunteered for the Hospice program for 3 and 1/2 years. For the last 10 years of her professional career she was a private nurse for Amber, a beautiful little angel whom she loved and adored.
As a couple, Gladys and Art pioneered, designed, and built their dream log cabin on the shores of beautiful Bear Lake Idaho. This included cutting lodge pole pine trees and logging them out of the forest. Each tree was individually hand barked, mainly by Gladys with Art and son Artie designing, constructing, and building the cabin. It was the pride and joy of her life and she enjoyed many summers up at Bear Lake with her family. Gladys was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She had a deep love for her family and was so proud of each of them and their accomplishments.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Seamons, parents, and siblings Zelma Payne, Nita Watterson, Beth Coon, Claine Jensen, and Elden Jensen. She is survived by her two children Arthur J. Seamons (Sue) and Ann Peterson (Neil) as well as six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren and good friend Rhonda Clarke along with many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Quote from Gladys "I have lived a long, happy, beautiful life filled with love, God, family, and service to my church and community and fellow men."
