Glen
Van Leeuwen
July 16, 1927 – May 24, 2024
Glen L. (Dutch) Van Leeuwen passed away on May 26th 2024 at The Lodge at North Ogden assisted living center. He was born on July 16,1927 in Ogden, Utah to Herman and Cora Van Leeuwen. He attended schools in Harrisville, and Ogden where he participated in all fields of music. He graduated from Ogden High School and joined the Navy that same year at age 17 and served on the aircraft carrier USS Barnes in the Pacific theater.
After returning home he attended Weber State College and in December of 1946 married Lorna Lindquist. He received his Associate's degree at Weber State and then moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he completed his junior year at Arizona State. While living in Phoenix Glen became actively involved in jazz music and played with many well-known and soon to be well-known jazz musicians.
Glen and Lorna returned to Ogden, Utah in 1951 where Glen began working a short time at the Naval Mapping Center before finishing a career at Hill AFB working for the Ogden Air Logistics Center while still pursuing his love for jazz. He continued playing in various combos and eventually with The Junction City Big Band until age 90.
Glen and Lorna had two children, Glen Kurtis (Kurt) and Tracey. Lorna passed away in 1993 and a year later Glen married Nadine Eklund whom had also lost her spouse in 1993.
Glen is survived by his wife, Nadine, and his children Kurt (Venetia) Van Leeuwen of Ivins, Utah and Tracey Cragun of Plain City, Utah. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Taylor (Kevin) Adams and 3 great grandsons, Eli, Rocky and Wells Adams.
He is proceeded in death by his sister Mildred Prantil and his parents.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Lodge at North and Cascade Springs Hospice for their great care in his final years. Special thanks to Amy, Maggie, and Courtney.
Graveside services to be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Ogden City Cemetery. A Visitation will be held One hour prior to services at Leavitt's Mortuary 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah.
