Goldie Hirschi VanDyke 1922 ~ 2011 We are saddened by the sudden loss of our dear wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, Goldie VanDyke, on Sunday, March 27, 2011, but we celebrate in her life, her love and her goodness. Goldie was born in Geneva, Idaho on February 21, 1922 to Christian and May Widmer Hirschi. Mom lived life actively. She married her eternal companion Allan D. VanDyke in the Salt Lake Temple on October 28, 1954 and shared so many great memories in their life together. They loved skiing, golfing, traveling, ballroom dancing, playing the organ, serving in the temple, and spending time with family. Mom worked hard. She spent 8 years as a civil service employee and then finished a degree at the University of Utah in order to pursue her true passion, teaching children. Mom loved teaching. She loved the energy and enthusiasm of working with the 2nd grade children at Oak Hills Elementary. She taught for 23 years. She and Dad then spent time traveling the world and seeing the sights. She loved and was loved by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was very much the doting grandma. Mom was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From the time she was 15, Mom served in the church in various callings. She and Dad served a Stake Mission for 18 months as Extraction Workers, followed by 7 years of service in the Salt Lake Temple as Ordinance Workers. To quote Mom, I consider my temple service as my salvation. She will be missed by her husband, Allan; children, Gloria (David) Vance, Stephen (Becky) VanDyke; sister, Joyce (Karl) Anderson, sister in-law Lois Hirschi, 14 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Christian and May Hirschi, brothers, Ferris Hirschi, Harvey Hirschi, and Don Hirschi and great-grandsons, Jared Vance and William Vance. The sweet sounds of family were like music to her ears and hugs and kisses were food to her soul. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 1, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Bountiful 41st Ward, 165 S. 1000 E., Bountiful, UT.
