Grace Elizabeth Bennett Burrows; was born January 23, 1915 to John and Hilda Olsen Bennett in Scipio, Utah. She was the oldest of six children. She was raised and went to elementary school in McCornick, junior high in Delta and 9th and 10th grades in Springville then after moving to Ogden she finished high school by correspondence school. At just shy of 100 years old, she was still doing most things on her own which speaks to her determination and independence that she had throughout her life. She married Lorin E Burrows January 27th 1933 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They loved camping, hunting, fishing, and going on Sunday rides with their family. He passed away July 15th 1974. They lived in Springville, Utah until his work with the railroad took them to Ogden in 1959. She is survived by three sons and one daughter, Keith (Vicky) of Price, Hal (Martha) of Springville, Marilyn Shoell of Orem and Bruce (Cherie) of Riverdale, one brother Reed, and two sisters Mabel and Marie (all of Utah County). She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a grandson Mike, and two brothers Robert and Everett. She has left a wonderful family legacy of love with her four children, 21 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren and 52 great great grandchildren. She was very adaptable and worked at Troy Laundry, the Utah State Mental Hospital in Provo and the Utah Valley Hospital before moving to Ogden. In Ogden, she worked at the Smith Food King Bakery dept. where she learned to make wedding cakes (a skill that she continued to do from home for family and friends) and at Utah Tailoring. She was Head of alterations at JCPenny and also worked in Mens alterations at ZCMI. After retirement she had a successful home business doing alterations and quilting, often saying she had completed over twenty five Salt Lake Temple Quilts after her Mission. Many of her children and grandchildren have one of Grandmas quilts to cherish. She was nominated by Marilyn to carry the Olympic torch in 2002 Winter Olympic Games and was so proud to be one of the oldest to do so at 87 years. Her family was the joy of her life. She spent countless hours catching up through phone calls and writing letters. There werent many special events that she missed. She spent all year planning and talking about upcoming reunions. Family events were always accompanied by her famous custard and rice pudding, a treat everyone looked forward to. She has been very faithful in church service with positions in the Primary, Sunday school, Young Womens on the ward and Stake levels. She also was very proud of saving up for and serving a full time mission to the New York, Rochester Mission 1980-1981. After she returned she served as Relief Society President. Special thanks to Chancellor Gardens Assisted Living in Clearfield and their wonderful caring staff, Especially Sallie and her staff in the memory unit and all of the special angels at CURO Hospice especially Anna and Dominique for their loving care. The funeral services will be held at the Hobble Creek West 3rd Ward, 555 South 600 East (Everett Ave.) Springville, Utah at noon on Thursday December 11, 2014 with a viewing from 10:30 to 11:30 preceding the service.
