Clearfield, Utah-Grace Elizabeth Carnahan Henrie, 85, passed away peacefully June 28, 2013, with her children by her bedside. She was born in Salmon, Idaho February 9, 1928 to James Henry Donlan and Frances Dean Donlan. She married Jack S. Stevens Dec. 11, 1950 in San Francisco, CA. They were later divorced. She married Gary Triplett November 1963 in Elko, NV. They were later divorced. She married Burton (Bud) Carnahan October 1968 in Elko, NV. He died March 1, 1984. She married Archie Henrie May 4, 2000 in Ogden, UT. He died December 2003.
Grace lived in the Salmon area until the late 1940s when she moved to McGill, NV to teach school. She had started teaching at the age of 18 in the Salmon area after attending one year of college in Missoula, MT. She and her husband Jack moved to Pocatello, ID in the early 1950s. She taught in the Pocatello area in the 1950s and 60s. In 1960 she went back to school for two years to get her degree in order to continue teaching, receiving a BS from Idaho State University. Grace moved to Ogden, UT in 1968 where she taught school for the next 25 years, retiring in 1993.
Grace loved books, traveling and dancing. She made her dream trip to Machu Picchu, Peru, several years ago and loved to talk about it and show off her photo album when asked. She and Archie had several adventures during their time together including rafting the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. Grace started ballroom dancing before she retired and earned several trophies in amateur competitions. She and Archie even danced down the aisle at their wedding. Grace was a very loving and caring person, full of life and possessing a great spirit. She was loved by many friends and former students as well as by her family, and she will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her children, Anita Stevens, Clearfield, UT; Mike (Sharree) Stevens, Alpine, WY; two grandsons, 7 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Mellie Fields, Boise, ID and Anita Lee, Watertown, NY; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Robert.
The family would like to thank the staff at Chancellor Gardens in Clearfield for the care and kindness given Grace during her time as a resident. They would also like to give a special thank you to those at Symbii Home Health and Hospice for all they did for her and her family in the last couple of weeks of her life.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Monday, July 15, 2013, 3:00pm at Elim Lutheran Church, 575 23rd Street, Ogden, UT. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Ahlzeimers.org or Symbii Home Health and Hospice. Cremation and other arrangements are being provided by Leavitts Mortuary, Ogden, UT.
