Obituary

Gregory Roberts Parr, 63, passed away on April 7, 2020, due to a stoic fight with cancer of the lungs, liver, and lymphatic system. Greg was born on May 11, 1956, to the proud parents Carson Wayne Parr and Marian Frances Roberts in Tampa, Florida. Greg graduated from King High School in 1974. He married his high school sweetheart, Jacqueline Marie Cox, on April 8, 1977, in Tampa, Florida. SSG Greg Parr joined the United States Air Force in 1977, a short time after marrying Jackie Cox. He would go on to serve his country for 20 years, having lived in Florida, South Carolina, Alaska, South Korea, and Utah, where he would retire in 1997. Even after retiring, Gregs love for the military continued on in his civilian life, where he would gain employment on Hill Air Force Base and work there until his passing. He was known as a very hard working and knowledgeable Airman and employee, with a variety of awards and accomplishments in both his enlisted and civilian tenure. Greg was adored by his granddaughters who nicknamed him "Grumpy Grandpa" and was always making sure his son was taking good care of them. He was looked up to for a variety of reasons including the stalwart example he showed how a man cares for his family. His love and concern for his family never wavered, including when he was taking his final breaths. His deep love and dedication to both of his wives were unprecedented, and both were spoiled rotten. Greg always put his family first and before his needs and wants were ever even thought of. To say Greg was generous to others would be an understatement. This generosity extended far beyond his family and included his friends, his sons friends, and causes he and his wife Jackie supported. The two received so many free calendars and address labels each year, which they ended up having a designated drawer for in their kitchen that didnt even hold them all. He was the rock in the lives of everyone who would ever need him, always coming to the aid of those he loved or had stewardship of. More than once, he had put himself through hell in order to be there for someone else, even when they would continuously hurt him for his efforts and dedication. Those who knew Greg knew how good a storyteller he was and he had a penchant for making even the most cautionary tale come off like a comedy. By the end of one of these stories, you would be wondering how he was still alive while dying of laughter yourself. The only tears he ever really caused someone else was tears of laughter. The man had a real goofy side. He made it impossible not to smile when he would come around a corner doing the silly little dance that made him look like he had ants in his pants. It was impossible to stay mad at him. He is both loved and missed dearly and deeply, even though we know he will be watching over us in death with the same love and concern he had for us in life. We love you, Dad! Greg is survived by his sister Deborah Parr Denman-Spink; his son Bradley Roberts Parr and daughter-in-law Becky Parr; and his three grandchildren, Adilyn, Gwen, and Quoraline. Greg is preceded in death by his first wife Jacqueline and second wife Jeri-Ann; his parents Carson Wayne and Marian; and his big brother Michael. Due to the COVID19 virus, there will be a Celebration of Life for family and friends held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please grill up a good steak, smoke some ribs, go shooting, or make a donation to the Hill Aerospace Museum, and spoil your grandchildren in Gregs memory.
