Obituary

On December 14, 2011, the world lost a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Gwen Call Hansen was born August 3, 1928 in Ogden, Utah to Sarah Kent Call and Willard White Call. She was raised in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School, where she met the love of her life, Parley Wayne Hansen.Gwen and Wayne were married on May 28, 1948 in the LDS Salt Lake Temple, where they were sealed for time and all eternity. Gwen and Wayne moved to Roy, Utah, and later bought Cedar Crest Farm in 1964. Before starting their family she worked several years for First Security Bank as well as the Egyptian Theatre in Ogden. Together with their six children, they ran a successful produce and livestock business. Gwen worked hard in the fields and operated the fruit stand and still managed to always have a home-cooked meal on the table for her family. Up until the time of her death, Gwen played a major role in running the family business. Gwen served on the PTA, supported her children and grandchildren in sports, and held several callings in the LDS church, including serving with her husband in the Special Needs Ward. Gwen and Wayne served an LDS Mission in Arkansas from 1994 to 1995. Gwen loved to bowl and was on a womens bowling league for several years. Gwen was an amazing cook and especially loved making chocolates for her family around the holidays. She was happy to teach her family how to make candy, and was pleased that they are able to carry on this tradition. She made everyone feel welcome in her home, and made each member of her family feel like they were her favorite, as she was very proud of each and every one of them. Gwen and Wayne loved to take trips and did so frequently. Richard and Pauline Hansen were their travel partners and they enjoyed that time together.Gwen is survived by her loving husband of 63 years; her children Kevin (Shauna) Hansen, Scott (Donell) Hansen, Kenney (Kay) Hansen, Shaunna (Richard) Wassom, Craig (Jacque) Hansen, and Paul (Elaine) Hansen. She leaves behind a legacy of 26 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild (as well as one more on the way). She is also survived by her sister Noreen Peterson and her brother Larry Call, and her sisters-in-law Beverly Call, Lois Call and Pauline Hansen.Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother Hazel Call, and her brothers Gordon Call, Dee Call, Ralph Call, and Steven Call.A viewing will be held on Sunday, December 18th, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th St. in Ogden.
