Helen Louene Clifford Palmer, 79, of Syracuse, Utah, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 9, 2022, at Davis Hospital & Medical Center.
Helen was born May 25, 1943, in Lewisville, Idaho, to Murtis LaVerl Clifford and Emily Helen Purser Clifford. She grew up and attended schools in Rigby, graduating from Rigby High School in 1961.
Helen met Robert Kent Palmer on a blind date in October of 1961. Robert was on leave for 20 days after returning from Okinawa with the US Marine Corps. They were smitten with each other and courted during a 10-day leave in January and through letters. On June 9, 1962, Helen and Robert were married in her parent’s home in Rigby, Idaho. They honeymooned in Yellowstone National Park. Bob and Helen were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 17, 1972.
The family lived in Twenty-nine Palms, CA; Chesapeake, VA; San Francisco, CA, and Idaho Falls, ID. When Bob returned from Vietnam in 1970, the family lived in Rigby, ID, and Bountiful, UT, before settling in North Salt Lake, UT in 1975 to raise their children. They moved to Syracuse, UT in 1998.
Helen provided in-home child care for many years. She worked various jobs including cashiering at Winegars, as a Data Processor at Salmons, Inc., as Accounts Payable and Payroll Manager at Hoyt USA, as a Data Processor at Associated Foods, and as a Walmart Associate in the Bakery.
Helen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Cub Scout Den Mother, Chorister, Primary teacher, Nursery leader, Librarian, and Ward, Stake, and Temple Missionary. She was blessed with a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing in the ward choir. She enjoyed crafting, sewing, collecting cookbooks, her dogs, watching Hallmark movies, and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Murtis Ray Palmer; sister, Juanita May Clifford; infant daughter, Sue Ann Palmer; and son, Charlton Robert Palmer.
Helen is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Kent Palmer of Syracuse; children, Anthony Kent (Debra) Palmer of Idaho Falls, ID, Bryon Scott Palmer of Farr West, UT, Debra Dee Reed of Syracuse, UT, Cameron Thomas (Lene) Palmer of Eagle Mountain, UT; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and Charlton’s widow, Jill Baker (Ben) Cluff and their four children of Alton, UT.
