BRIGHAM CITYHelen Schaar DeBry Musser 88, born July 13, 1922 in Salt Lake City Utah to Otto John and Edna Marval Schaar, passed away April 5, 2011 of natural causes.Helen and her family want to thank the care and support given by the staff at Pioneer Care Rehab in Brigham City. Helen had a stroke in 2009 and became a resident of Pioneer until her death.Helen grew up in Salt Lake where she was a high school cheerleader at East High. Helen made her home in both Ogden and Brigham City for a number of years. She also attended the University of Utah and Weber State University. She married William J. DeBry in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1940. William (Bill) died in 1990, just barely short of their 50th wedding anniversary and celebration. Helen later married Alson (Al) B. Musser making their home in Brigham City until his death in 2001.Helen was a remarkable woman of many talents. She was first and foremost a wife and mother. But she was also a business woman, a traveler, a musician, an artist, an adventurer, and the source for many family gatherings. She was active in her church and provided a spiritual anchor for her family.Helen loved the solitude of nature and spending time in the mountains. She enjoyed hiking, camping, and just breathing the fresh mountain air. Helen and her growing family enjoyed many memorable camping trips to Brighton and The Spruces east of Salt Lake. Later on, she enjoyed camping trips with her grandchildren. Helen still enjoyed getting away for camping trips, even in her later years. Helen also enjoyed her visits to many of the national parks across the country.Some of the activities she enjoyed most were her associations with a number of different choir groups. Helen organized and coordinated the presentations of many different choral programs for her church organizations. Helen served as chorister for a number of different church groups and organizations. She also loved singing in numerous choirs including her church choirs and the Thiokol choir.Helen held many church positions in the Sunday school, Primary, Mutual, and Relief Society organizations. She was a charter member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers Cummings Camp. She is the past secretary and president of the Brigham City chapter of the Business Professional Womens (BPW) club. While with the BPW, she organized the program and presentation of the BPW womens fashion show.Helen loved to play her violin as well as her organ. She had some great, fun times, teaching and playing music with her children and grandchildren. Some of her favorite interests and hobbies were music, choral directing, writing poetry, oil painting, gardening, camping, fishing, making ceramics, traveling, swimming, ice skating, pheasant hunting, horseback riding, and visits to Bear Lake.Helen worked at Thiokol for over 25 years and enjoyed her many associations there. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling and seeing the country with her husband, Al, in their motor home. Helen and Al liked to take their motor home to Mesa AZ for a few months during the winter. One special summer, they were able to spend 3 enjoyable months touring Alaska in their motor home. Other travels Helen enjoyed, include a tour to Europe, a cruise in the Caribbean, a couple of trips to Canada, and a trip to the Hawaiian Islands. Helen truly loved each member of her family and extended family very much. Helen loved getting together with her family to enjoy the many special meals she prepared for them. She always provided celebrations for birthdays, holidays, and other special events. She took special joy in her family gatherings and the love and pleasure they brought to everyone. Christmas was also a special time for Helen and she spared no effort to make it wonderful for everyone with all the decorations and smells of good things to eat. Helen is very loved by her family and will be greatly missed. Thank you Mom, for all you have been to us and all you have done for us over the years.Helen is survived by 3 children; Jean Mickelson (Norris), Willard; Kenneth DeBry, Ogden; and Marilyn Peck (Ken), Bountiful; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.Helen was preceded in death by her husbands, a son David W. DeBry (Jane) in 2009, and a grandson Jeffrey DeBry.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at the LDS 19th Ward chapel; 105 West Fishburn Drive; Brigham City UT. Friends may visit Friday, April 8, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in Brigham City, 205 South First East, Brigham City, and from 12:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. prior to services at the church.
