Helen Sandman, age 86, passed away on December 31, 2010 at the Ogden Regional Medical Center. Helen was preceded in death by her husband James Peter Sandman. Helen was born December 19, 1924 the sixth child and daughter of Arentje (Ella) (Groen) Dallinga, and Heino Dallinga. She is survived by her daughters, Karen Kelly, Allen, Texas and Kathy Bassett, Pleasant View, Utah. She has six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, with two grandchildren on the way. She is also survived by one brother; Richard Dallinga and three sisters; Kathryn Gale, Martina Garritsen and Ruth Hite.Helen met Jim when he returned from the armed forces and they were married on September 17, 1946Helen attended schools in Riverdale and Ogden. She was known for the wonderful cook she was and she made her home inviting, for family gatherings and holidays, cooking wonderful meals, for family and friends. She also showed her artistic talents during high school. She loved to dance with her husband Jim and our lives are filled with the warm memories of her. She and Jim loved to go camping and fishing and spent many summers in Idaho. She was especially fond of traveling to California to Big SUR with her daughters. Helen will be missed greatly by her family and friends.Graveside services will be held at Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th Street, Ogden, on Thursday January 6, 2011, at 3:30 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to come and pay their last respects and condolences from 1:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m. A special tribute is sent to Kathy Bassett, friend and neighbor Sharon Bernel and Hospice for all they did for mother to make her comfortable in her last days.
