J. Elaine BroadbentOur beloved sister and aunt passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 25, 2012.She was born September 21, 1927 in Ogden, Utah, the fourth child of Enoch Arden and Mary Charlesworth Broadbent. Elaine attended Ogden City schools graduating from Ogden High in 1945. She went on to graduate with honors from Weber State College in 1949, the University of California Berkeley in 1951, and received her Masters Degree in Library Science in 1955 from the University of Washington, in Seattle. From there, she went to the University of Chicago, where she graduated in 1959 with a certificate of Advanced study. In September of 1987after 37 years, she retired from the Marriott Library at the University of Utah as a Master of Librarian. She loved her family very much and even though she never had any children of her own she claimed all of her nieces and nephews as her children. She was an avid traveler, card player, and she loved to read, especially mysteries. One mystery she could never get enough of was her family history. She spent many hours at the Genealogy Library in Salt Lake City tracking down one clue after another about her family tree. Elaine had a true pioneer spirit; she had big dreams and worked very hard to make them come true. Elaine is survived by one brother, Arden Junior Broadbent and his wife Lora, Liberty; her brother-in-law Lewis Livingston, Provo; sister-in-law, Joanne Tucker Broadbent, California; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Dean Broadbent, sisters, Irene Livingston and Beverly Ernst and Beverlys husband John. We as a family would like to thank the staff at Aspen Care for all the love and care they gave Elaine the last few months of her life, and also the love and support they have given to us as her family. Elaine will be honored by her family and friends at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a visitation for family and friends on Saturday from 10:00 ~ 10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
