Jacob Uhrich May 10, 1913 - January 6, 2015 Jacob (Jake) Uhrich, 101 years young, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, in the Memory Care Unit at Emeritus Estates in Ogden. He was born to German immigrants, Jacob and Lydia Uhrich on May 10, 1913 in Havelock, NE. He was the last surviving member of 10 children. On August 10, 1940, Jacob married Dorothy Marie Allen in a small ceremony at the home of Dorothys parents, in Pocatello, ID. He worked as a machinist for the railroad in Cheyenne, WY and Pocatello, ID. During WWII he worked as a machinist at the Naval Ordinance Depot in Bremerton, WA and Pocatello, ID. In 1959, he transferred to the Naval Supply Depot in Clearfield. He then transferred to Hill AFB till his retirement in 1976. Jacob was an active member of the First Baptist Church, serving communion and doing ushering duties along with many other tasks he enjoyed doing for the church. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbors, friends, or anyone that needed something fixed or needed help. At 101, it could truly be said of Jacob, You shall come to the grave at a full age, as a sheaf of grain ripens in its season (Job 5:26). Jacob is survived by a daughter, Joann (Darvin) Goldben; two grandchildren: Douglas (Jenifer) Goldben, Janeen (Naman) Harwood; five great-grandchildren, all of Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews; his best friend, George (Myra) Fisher; his like a daughter to him, Jeannette Hartog (Roger McCarty); a sister-in-law, Dorothy Uhrich, of Cheyenne, WY. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy and 10 siblings. The family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone that visited Jacob, especially George Fisher. He enjoyed his company and the way he told his wonderful stories of his life when he was young. We would also like to thank the staff of the Emeritus Estates, we are grateful for their help in caring for Jacob. Both while he was in the assisted living area and in the memory care unit. Also for the comfort they gave to the family during the time he was living there. We really enjoyed the wonderful 101 birthday party given in Jacobs honor. The family wants to extend a special thank you to the staff of Hearts for Hospice for the exceptional care they gave to Jacob. Especially Camille that sang his favorite song with him, Life is like a Railroad and she played her guitar while he sang, "Silent Night" in German. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Abby and Mikkel for their patience with Jacob. On Sunday, April 26, at 12:30 pm, at The First Baptist Church of Ogden, 2519 Jefferson Ave, Ogden, there will be a time to celebrate his life through memories. A light luncheon will be served.
