Obituary

James Franklin Vaughn, of Cedar Hills, Utah, died 21 January 2024 from natural causes related to his age after a fall. He missed his 100th birthday by 3 months. His parents were George Franklin Vaughn and Bertha Alice Lunsford Vaughn.

He graduated from Ogden High School in 1942. During World War II he trained in Electronics at a Navy School in San Francisco. He was first assigned to the USS Dorsey, a Destroyer/Mine Sweeper. He was also in the South Pacific. During the Korean War he was stationed at a Naval Communications Station in Kodiak, Alaska.

After the war he went to the University of Utah to study Engineering. He worked for several companies in the aerospace industry, testing rockets. Some were Douglas Aircraft, Autonetics, Sperry, Hercules, and as a civilian at Dugway Proving Grounds, Fort Douglas Deseret Testing, and Hill Air Force Base. He worked on the Minuteman Missile.

He was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1953 and has been dedicated since. He has served in various positions of responsibility, but his heart has always been in Scouting and Genealogy/Family History Research. He also enjoyed an annual backpacking trip to the Granddaddy Lakes in the Uintah Mountains.

In 1947 he married Donna Jean Wilcox Vaughn, later solemnized in the Salt Lake temple in 1954. They were blessed with 4 children (and their spouses), 12 grandchildren (and their spouses), and 33 great grandchildren.

Jean died in 2009.

He married Susan Loring Vaughn in 2015. She has helped ease his loneliness and brought him comfort. He also gained 3 bonus children (and spouses), 9 bonus grandchildren, and

1 bonus great grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his grandson Josh Parker, his son Mike, his wife Jean, his parents, and his brothers.

Funeral services will be at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah at 2:00. There will be a visitation the same day and place beginning at 1:00.

Interment will immediately follow.
