Doctor Jay Wesley Phippen passed away on December 26, 2012 after an extended illness. Jay was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Merlyn Lester and Althera B. Phippen on December 22, 1934.Jay graduated from Idaho Falls High School and then went into the U.S. Army. Jay Married Nancy Terry, his high school sweetheart in Louisville, Kentucky; while he was stationed at Fort Knox, KY. After the Army he went to Utah State University where he graduated with a PHD. in Theoretical Physics. He loved teaching and taught at Weber State University for 42 years. He loved each of his students and was proud of their successes. Jay was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He had many callings in the Church but loved his time as a Stake Missionary. He was a jogger and enjoyed fishing and hiking especially with his sons and grandsons. Jay is survived by his wife, Nancy, daughters: Kathy Richison and Laurie Barrett, sons: Richard Phippen and Paul Phippen, 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Joy Foose and his brothers Terry Phippen and Mike Phippen. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, James Phippen. The family wishes to thank Kelli and Mike from Advocate Hospice for their loving care. Funeral services for Jay will be held at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Family will meet with friends on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. and from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the mortuary.
