Jay Robert "Bob" Prothero Jr., 79, passed away on September 21, 2026, in Ogden, Utah. He was born January 4, 1947, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Jay Robert Prothero Sr. and Doris Virginia Bateman.

Bob graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1965 and later attended Weber State University. He proudly served his country as a Vietnam War veteran, earning the Purple Heart and the Army Commendation Medal for his service. After his military service, Bob began a long career at Hill Air Force Base, where he worked as a systems analyst until his retirement in 2003.

On August 28, 1970, Bob married his beloved wife, Beverly Jean Walz. They shared 56 years of marriage filled with love, family, and countless memories.

Bob had many interests that brought him joy throughout his life. He loved golfing and was especially proud of achieving a hole-in-one. He enjoyed coaching and sharing his love of sports, was a devoted Yankees fan, and had a deep appreciation for history. He also had a special place in his heart for animals and loved his pets.

Above all else, Bob loved his family. He treasured his wife, children, and grandchildren, and the time he spent with his grandchildren was among his greatest joys. His family will remember him for the love, memories, stories, and laughter he shared with them throughout the years.

Bob is survived by his wife, Beverly Jean Walz Prothero; his children, Aaron (Genevra), Chad (Heather), and Brian (Krista); and his grandchildren, Ian, Isaac, James, Dylan, Emma, Olive, and Marshall. He is also survived by his beloved cat, Bernie; his siblings, George (Shelly) and Ginni; and his half-siblings, James, Michael, and Cindy.

Bob leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who loved him dearly. His devotion to his family, service to his country, love of history and sports, and gentle affection for the people and animals in his life will be remembered and cherished always.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of life will be held on October 16, 2026 from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. located at Leavitt's Mortuary & Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th Street, Ogden.
