Our beloved Jennie Soteras Contos (Yia Yia to her grandchildren and extended family) passed peacefully and gracefully from this world on November 29, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Born February 16, 1921 to George and Helen Soteras, Jennie blessed us with almost 98 years of her kindness and brilliance. She attended Sacred Heart Academy and studied Journalism at Weber State College. During college, she worked at First Security Bank and in 1941 became one of the first female commercial bank tellers in the state. In 1947 she took a break from work to marry Andrew Contos and to raise her children Diane and Jon. (Andrew and Jennie later divorced.) She rejoined the bank in 1965 working as an auditor and helping to develop the first automated teller operations. Jennie retired in 1986 and went on the play golf, cards, and Scrabble with her great friends any chance shed get. Along with Jennies many accomplishments, she played an integral part in raising her two granddaughters Talia and Torill. She was there to pick them up from school and made sure they did "homework before play". Words fail to touch the impact she had on the lives of her loved ones. "Yia Yia" is forever in our hearts. Jennie is survived by her son, Jon Contos (Lillija); grandchildren Talia Painter (Nick), Torill Contos; great grandchildren Vann and Bodhi; sister-in-law Helen Soteras; nieces Denise (Bruno) Marchand and Roxanne Soteras. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Harry and George Soteras; daughter Diane Contos; and many loving family and friends.
