IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jerald S.
Lamph
September 28, 1929 – March 13, 2024
Jerry Lamph arrived at his heavenly home on March 13, 2024, at the age of 94.
He was born in Provo, Utah, the son of Elnora Seeley and David D. Lamph. As a child and young man he lived in Coalville and Grantsville, Utah. Jerry's family moved to Ogden in 1943 and Jerry attended Central Junior High, Ogden High School, and obtained an Associate's degree from Weber State College.
In 1948 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and honorably served his country for 4 years. He obtained the rank of Sergeant and qualified as an expert rifleman. He was very proud of his Dress Blues.
Jerry enjoyed art and detailed work that required manual dexterity and precision. He was known for his design, craftsmanship, and artistic ability. He attended UCLA Dental Laboratory School in Los Angeles, apprenticed at Beverly Hills Dental Ceramics, and brought porcelain crown and bridge technology to Utah in 1960. He was the owner of Lamph Dental Ceramics in Ogden and made beautiful porcelain crowns and bridges for many of the dentist's patients in the surrounding area. He also served as the President of the Utah State Dental Laboratory Association.
Upon retirement, Jerry's passion was building scale-model airplanes capable of remote-controlled flight. This hobby required precise measurements, balancing, and detail. He loved flying his planes at a local private flying field and was a member of the National Academy of Model Aeronautics. He was especially happy when he was flying with his grandson or his two sons. He taught all three of them to fly.
He loved to travel. In 1975 with Gloria and the children he drove the entire length of the Alaskan Highway by motorhome when much of the highway was a dirt road. Fairbanks at the time was a "pipeline city" as the Alaskan Pipeline was being built. The family enjoyed the wildlife and camping.
Jerry and Gloria have driven the Baja to Cabo San Lucas several times, and have been deep in the mainland of Mexico four times. One of the trips was for 60 days, travelling in their improvised Windstar motorhome to Cancun, Belize border, through Chiapas, on to Oaxaca, then north through Pueblo and San Miguel to the Texas border.
Jerry's favorite trip was in 2010 when his entire family went sailing in the Caribbean—all thirteen of them. His son, Rich, was the licensed captain of the catamaran.
Jerry is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He believed in a loving God and the gospel of Jesus Christ.
His greatest love and joy was his family and home. Jerry and Gloria were married for 69 years. They were blessed with three children: J. Scott (Toni) Lamph, Richard W. Lamph, and Karen Lamph Davis. Jerry and Gloria have five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.
The family expresses deep appreciation to Dr. Shipotko, the IHC Hospital Medical Team, and Amber of Intermountain Homecare and Hospice for the loving care and support given to our dear husband and father.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah. Friends and relatives may visit with the family prior to the services from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
