Our loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great-Great Grandmother, Joan Welling Godfrey, 96, peacefully passed away at her home on July 6, 2016. She was born October 11, 1919 in Malad, Idaho, the daughter of Naomi Thomas and Job Dewey Welling. She was born in the home of Aunt Annie and Uncle Lee who raised her mother. She was raised in Fielding and graduated from Bear River High School and Seminary. She had five brothers, Eldon, Blair, Cardell, Jerry and Brent and one sister, Renee. They moved to California and it became an annual summer vacation for Joan and her family by train to visit them.
Joan met her husband, Victor Page Godfrey, at a dance in Clarkston and they were later married in the Logan Temple on June 8, 1938. She was very proud of her heritage and was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She held many positions in the LDS Church including the Relief Society and the Young Womens President in her ward as well as a counselor and secretary in her stake. She was an avid reader of church books.
Joan and Vic enjoyed camping at Lava Hot Springs, Brownie Lake, and going to Crystal Hot Springs with their family and spending the winters in St. George enjoying their motor home and their many friends.
Joan is survived by her five sons: Norman (Sharon deceased), Rodger (Lorraine), Brad (Vicki), Kirk (Heidi), Darren (Tricia) and her only daughter, LeeAnn (Bob) Torrey; sister, Renee Macfarlane, brother, Brent Welling; 25 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson, Matt Welling Godfrey and four brothers.
The family would especially like to thank Pam Udy for her loving care and compassion during the last two and a half years. We were truly blessed to have her. Also our thanks go to Inspiration Hospice and Homecare and Donette and Janis.
