IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joanie
Goodenough
March 7, 1944 – November 26, 2023
Liberty, our valley, and the Goodenough family have lost one of their greatest treasures. Liberty has been home to our momma since 1974. Joan Goodenough, sadly, left this earth to fly among the angels on November 26th, 2023, at 79 years old. Our brave Momma fought so many medical conditions for over 16 years. Rest assured, she fought valiantly. Our Momma was a donor, and her suffering has benefitted others with her tissue donation for studies with the University of Utah.
Joanie Goodenough, mom-mom to most, was movie star-level beautiful, intelligent, creative, fun-loving, and above all kind, sweet, genuine and down to earth. She had a special energy about her that she was able to touch many people's hearts and lives and she has left so many people with unforgettable memories that will surely be cherished for years to come.
To say that she was an extraordinary woman who led an extraordinary and adventurous life would be an understatement. Joanie enjoyed traveling the world, and boy did she travel from the Caribbean islands to covering coast to coast through Mexico, the United States, and the Hawaiian Islands. Joanie especially loved living in Europe and traveling often through Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Holland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Poland, France, Italy, Greece, Egypt, Sudan, and Morocco, Momma delighted in filling her passports full of the different countries stamps and making her friends from all over the world.
Joanie left her mark upon the world as she created exquisite works of art through her photography, poetry and paintings. She also enjoyed creating beautiful gardens and delicious works of art in the kitchen through her talents with cooking and baking. She was an avid reader and she enjoyed shopping but more than anything her happy place in this life was spending time with her much loved and adored family.
Joanie grew up in Kilgore Idaho on the Larick family ranch. It was there that she became a rodeo queen, head cheerleader, she was a cook for Buds ranch and she sang with a group she formed called the 3 J's. Joanie was honored with being chosen to attend Girls State for her outstanding academic excellence of receiving straight A's through her entire academic history. Momma was proud to be considered to join Mensa.
Momma should be recognized as Kilgore Idaho's number one fan and a one woman public relations firm, from the cherished memories that she enjoyed sharing and reminiscing about frequently with everyone she met on her journey through this life.
Joanie was patriotic and served in the United States Air Force as a very young woman of 18 years old, where she made many friends with ease and enjoyed living in Texas and Florida. Momma loved her many adventures in the Air Force to include serving during the Cuban missile crisis and her special duty of being a stewardess for VIP and senior officers flights.
In 1964 she met the love of her love life, (Howdy) Howard Goodenough, and it was love at first sight. They decided to wed after a wild car ride in Howard's corvette. Howdy and Joanie raised three daughters, Suzie, Trish and Jodi on their dream property in the home that they built together in Liberty, Utah. Every morning began with musicals that Howdy and Joan sang to each other such as " Close to You," "why do birds suddenly appear"… was a beautiful sentiment our parents shared for one another every morning. Mom-Mom adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she kept rooms for them in her home and wanted them with her always, Katie, Megan, Tommy, Shannon, Olivia, Rylan, Graysan, Charlotte and Ari brought Mom-Mom and Papa so much joy in life and they loved knowing that they go on through time through their loved ones. They always said to one another "just look at what our love has created!"
Momma was talented at all art mediums and she won several competitions creating fashion designs that she sewed. She loved making darling dresses for her daughters that they loved and felt special in throughout the years. Momma also went to beauty school and did everyones hair for many years.
Momma worked professionally as both a visual merchandiser, Interior Designer and Photographer. Joan started the first theater group in Liberty. The children studied plays from Shakespeare in front of the castle in Joanie's beautiful backyard. The children were able to enter an enchanted realm that Joan and her daughter Tricia created. At the end of the summer the children would perform to an audience. The audience were fortunate enough to be transported to this enchanted realm, where her loving husband Howard and her son-in laws had built a castle that became famous in the valley. Children couldn't wait to sign up for Joan and Tricia's theater classes. Joanie and her daughters had One Moment in Time Photography for over 20 years and they were the first professional photographers in the valley working with Patio hot springs and their beloved Laub family at Wolf Creek with Momma's dear friends Cynthia and John who she was the interior designer for the original Wolf Creek Lodge and condominiums. Momma was also the artist that created the Wolf of Wolf Creek in Eden, Utah.
The loss of this wonderful woman is truly devastating, she was the treasure and center of our family's existence and she will be missed beyond measure. We were blessed to have been able to spend our lives with her. Joanie is survived by her husband Howard Goodenough, daughters Suzie (Justin) Trish (Tom) Jodi (Jason). Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren mentioned above.
Brothers Johnny and Monte(Sandy) Sisters Kathy (Brad) Jeri (Ray) Trish (Revo) sister in-law Glenda(Terry). Many much loved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and best friend Kristine Garmier. Family that preceded Momma to heaven are her Mom and Dad, Bettie and John, brother in-law Danny, sister in-laws Pat and Linda, niece Shelly, nephew Clint, son in-law Jer, Mother and Father in-law Eleanor and Glen. Beloved Aunts, Uncles and Grandparents also passed. Momma told us daily how much she loved her Momma and Daddy with all her heart and how she missed them terribly. We find some semblance of peace knowing that she has been reunited with them.
