John Richard Burgett passed away on January 14, 2013; at the age of 84. He was born on July 18, 1928 in Lorain, Ohio, to Arthur Lawrence Burgett and Catherine McDermott Burgett, and was helped raised by step-mother Mary Micjan Burgett. John graduated from Lorain High School. He married Sonia Marie Vronick on August 12, 1950.John was faithful to his country, serving over 20 years in the in the U.S. Air Force. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired from the U.S Air Force and Civil Service at Hill Air Force Base. John enjoyed playing slot machines in Wendover, going to his cabin in the Uintahs, fishing and being a mechanic. He is survived by his children Richard (Kari) Burgett, Dianne Halling, Cathy (Rick) Burket and Sharon (Tracy) Ganske. He is also survived by his siblings: MaryAnne Burgett, Robert Burgett, Arthur Burgett and Betty Yates as well as 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brother, William Burgett, and also their beloved dog, Sunshine. The family would like to thank all the special care givers at George Wahlen Veterans Center, Bristol Hospice and Comfort Keepers and especially Sherry Varney and Paula Lutz. Funeral services for John will be held at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Friday, January 18, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Family will greet friends prior to the service from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to the Alzheimers Foundation, Utah Chapter, 42 S. State Street, Clearfield, Utah, 84015, or to the charity of your choice. Interment will follow at Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park.
