Obituary

John Lars Larsen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on June 27, 2023 in Layton, Utah, at the age of 83. He was born on May 6, 1940, in the beautiful town of Franklin, Idaho to Christian James Larsen and Orba Jorgensen. John Lars Larsen had a fulfilling and blessed life. On April 10, 1964, he entered into holy matrimony with Sandra Margaret Petersen in the sacred Logan Utah Temple. Their union was filled with love and devotion for 49 remarkable years until Sandra's passing. Together, they were blessed with two wonderful children: Chris Larsen and Sandra Larsen. John also adored his four grandchildren and embraced many other young individuals as adopted grandchildren throughout his life. John had a deep commitment to his faith. He served a mission to Oslo, Norway and later dedicated numerous years of service as a Temple Sealer in the Ogden Temple. His dedication to his faith and willingness to serve others left an indelible impact on all those who were privileged to know him. Professionally, John excelled as an Industrial Electrician at the Defense Depot Ogden (DDO) while also serving in the National Guard. His work ethic was unparalleled, earning him recognition amongst his peers and gratitude from those he served alongside. At a young age of only four years old, John faced unimaginable tragedy when he lost his father. Despite this adversity, he and his brother assumed responsibility for their family's dairy farm as they grew older. Their resilience and determination were testaments to their strong character. One facet of John's life that brought him immense joy was his involvement with the scouting program. For over two decades, he devoted himself wholeheartedly to scouting activities, creating lasting memories for countless young boys who had the privilege to be under his guidance. Additionally, he worked closely with a young man who had mental disabilities in the scouting program, a role that John treasured and found fulfillment in. Outside of his professional and service life, John loved spending time with his children. He created cherished memories through fishing trips and camping adventures that will be forever etched in their hearts. John Lars Larsen was preceded in death by his loving parents, his beloved wife Sandra, his daughter Sandra, four sisters, and one brother. As we reflect upon John's life, let us remember him as a man of faith, integrity, and unwavering love for his family and community. He is survived by his son, Chris Larsen, and caregiver and adopted daughter Lynn Martin. The legacy of John Lars Larsen lives on through the countless lives he touched during his time on this earth. His kindness, commitment to others, and dedication to service will forever inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
