John Lawrence's Obituary

John S. "Jack" Lawrence 83, passed away January 13, 2014. John was born July 24, 1930 in Bennington, Vermont. He graduated from Bennington High School in 1948 and attended the University of Vermont. He was accepted on a four-year technical training program at General Electric in Schenectady, N.Y. He married Jean Shirley MacDougall in Schenectady, N.Y. in 1950. She proceeded him in death October 21, 2012 He spent 10 years with General Electric in numerous locations, including the Jet Engine Division near Cincinnati. In 1958, he accepted an offer with Marguart Aviation in Ogden. Later he took a job at Browning Arms Co. for 23 years until retiring. One of his designs was the BL22 and it is one of the most popular model. He was active in sports and coached several local youth in Alpine Ski Racing, some of whom went on to professional careers. He also held leadership positions in the Boy Scouts for 20 years. Among his civic activities, he did extensive trail development and maintenance. He also painted one of the murals at the Ogden Rodeo Stadium. He is survived by a son, Daniel J. (Melanie) Lawrence. One grandson, Dr. Johnathan E. Lawrence (Carolyn) and great granddaughter, Beira. One granddaughter, S Sgt Danielle M. Lawrence (Maj. John Wheeler) and great grandson Logan. Step Grandsons; Jeromy Smith, Adam (Bridgette) Smith and family, Joshua Smith, Austin Smith. Funeral services for John will be held 5:00 p.m. Monday, January 20, 2014 at Leavitts Mortuary 836 36th street in Ogden. A public viewing will be held following services at the mortuary. As per Johns wishes Leavitts Mortuary will be in care of his cremation. Inurnment will be in the Crystal Gardens Mausoleum Aultorest Memorial Park.
