John died June 8, 2013 at the age of 102 in Ogden, Utah. He was a resident of Ogden for over 50 years.
John Parker was born March 23, 1911 in Round Valley, Idaho to John and Selmna Parker. On the day he was born the mid-wife came across the fields in her sled where snow was so deep that the sled cleared the fences. He grew up in Southern Idaho where his father was a Ranger with the U.S. Forest Service.
After graduating in forestry from the University of Idaho in 1934, John began a long career with the U.S. Forest Service. In 1935 he married Josephine Theirfelder. His job took him and his wife
Jo and daughter Sharon to Boise and Cascade, Idaho; Ogden; Ely, Nevada; Pocatello, Idaho, and back to Ogden where he retired in 1970. John worked his way up from Junior Forester to Ranger to Forest Staff Officer to Forest Supervisor on two National Forests and to a staff position in the Forest Service Regional Office in Ogden.
John married Josephine Theirfelder in 1935. They had a happy marriage with many moves from tiny Cascade, Idaho to Ogden Utah. Josephine was ever the trooper, packing up and moving to a new location and life, but horseback riding was not an activity that she enjoyed. Jo passed away in 1989.
During retirement John and Jo traveled throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. They enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing. John was also an avid fan of the Utah jazz and had season tickets for 25 years.
John has one daughter Sharon Wright (Larry), two grandchildren, John Wright and Andrea Layton (Jason), and two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Sam Layton.
