John Herbert Swaner's Obituary

John "Jack" Herbert Swaner passed away at his home on March 6, 2014. John was born on June 18, 1927 in Ogden, Utah graduating from Ogden High School and Weber State College with a degree in Business. He was in the U.S. Navy and served his country in WWII. John married Cleo Fae Anderson and they had three children. They were later divorced. On August 30, 1969 he married Jo Brannan in Montgomery, Alabama. She passed away July 2008. He was employed at Hill AFB, retiring after 38 years. At the time of his retirement, he was a division chief in computer operations. He served as an officer in the National Machine Accounting Association and the Hill Air Force Base Administrative Club. He graduated from the Air Force Comptroller School and the Air War College Seminar Program. He received many performance awards. John loved the outdoors, enjoyed hunting, fishing, snow and water skiing, bowling and golf. He was one of the original members of the Hill AFB Ski Club, creating friendships he maintained throughout the years. He was a member of the LDS Church. He is survived by two children; CarolLyn (Bob) Williams, Winchester, OR, and Paul (Angela) Swaner, Eden, UT, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Annette (Dave) Manning, his brother, Gene (LaDon) Swaner and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Cleo, his parents, his wife Jo, sister Fern (Duke) Blasko, and daughter Linda Ann Swaner Johnson. His family will be forever grateful to his many friends who kept weekly outings, Wendover trips and visits constant. Also the staff of Dignity Hospice and Dr. Ryan Stewart for their care. A graveside service in his honor will be held at Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 -36th St., Ogden, UT, Friday, March 14, 2014, at 2:00 pm where military honors will be accorded. There will be a celebration of his life for friends and family following the graveside service at Leavitts Waterfall Atrium. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite animal charity.
