Obituary

Joseph DeCarlo, born on May 12, 1926, in Brooklyn, New York, to Gesualdo and Maria (Bella) DeCarlo, passed away on December 1, 2024, at the age of 98.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Clara Jane DeCarlo; his son, Edward DeCarlo; and his sister, Thelma Marchese. Joseph is survived by his four sons: Joseph (Jodi) DeCarlo, Michael (Debbie) DeCarlo, Thomas (Cheryl) DeCarlo, and Robert (Cedric) DeCarlo, and his two daughters: Mary Jane (Joseph) Ringel and Patricia (Todd) Konieczki. He leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Joseph graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree, subsequently working as an aeronautical engineer in the aerospace industry. He was a member of the team that facilitated the Lunar Module's landing on the moon and contributed to the development of rocket boosters for the space shuttle. His professional career involved living and working in New York, Ohio, California, Alabama, and Utah.

Joseph's aspiration for a large family was realized when he married Clara Jane Hebbeler in Ohio on September 15, 1951. He was highly regarded for his exceptional patience, perpetual smile, and unwavering love for his family. As a dedicated husband and father with profound Catholic faith, Joseph exemplified commitment and dedication. He served his country with distinction as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps, functioning as a gunner on the P-61 Black Widow. His service was recognized with the American Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

His notable sayings included, "Keep smiling; it's good for your health," "Don't sweat the small stuff," and "San Giuseppe give me strength."

The services for Joseph DeCarlo will commence on December 16, 2024, at Leavitt's Mortuary, located at 836 36th St, Ogden, UT, starting at 9:00 AM. This will be followed by the rosary at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1100 E 5550 S, Ogden, UT, at 10:30 AM, with a Mass to be held at 11:00 AM.

Joseph DeCarlo will be remembered for his remarkable contributions to his family, his faith, and his country. May he rest in peace.
