Obituary

Leo Joseph Rasmussen, "Josh" beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on March 5, 2025. Born on December 12, 1942, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Leo lived a life centered on faith, family, service, and adventure.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Josh served a mission in the Central States Mission, United States, dedicating his time to sharing his testimony and love for the gospel. He served his country with honor in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970, where he was awarded the Bronze Star with a "V" for Valor for his bravery in combat.

On December 14, 1973, Josh married the love of his life, Judith Ohlmacher Rasmussen, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they embarked on a journey that took them to Fairbanks, Alaska, in 1973 before settling in Utah in 1980. With his own hands, Josh built their "temporary home" in West Haven where they still live today, a lasting testament to his strength, determination, and love for his family.

Josh spent his years in Alaska running his businesses, working hard to provide for his family while embracing the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship in the Last Frontier. Later in life he found time for adventure—flying in helicopters and aircraft, fishing in remote rivers, and tracking bears. His love for Alaska and its rugged beauty was undeniable, and he carried that pioneering spirit with him throughout his life.

Josh and Judith were blessed with six children-welcoming two daughters while living in Alaska, then expanding his family with three more daughters and a son after settling in Utah.

In 1996, Josh and Judith adopted "their favorite son" Alex Rasmussen from Moldova making seven, expanding their family and further demonstrating their boundless love and generosity.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judith Ohlmacher Rasmussen, and their children and grandchildren:

• Daughter Brooke Hardcastle and son-in-law Ryan Hardcastle, with their children William, Halle (currently serving a mission in the New Hampshire, Manchester mission) Cambelle, Maryn, and Caroline.

• Daughter Kirsten Lee and son-in-law Eric Lee.

• Daughter Elisa Hutchinson and son-in-law Adam Hutchinson, with their children Joshua, Abigail, Gwyneth, and Mikey.

• Daughter Amber Rasmussen, with her children Leah and Beau.

• Daughter Kendra Komer and son-in-law Tyson Komer, with their children Jaxon, Leo, Lydia, and Harrison.

• Son AJ Rasmussen and daughter-in-law Summer Rasmussen, with their children Ben, James, Sam, and John.

• Son Alex Rasmussen.

Josh's kindness, wisdom, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His was a life well-lived, guided by faith, love, and an enduring dedication to family.
