So. Ogden - K. Dale Keyes roller-skated back into the arms of his eternal companion, December 11, 2014 at the age of 90. Dale was born May 3, 1924 to Percy Lee and Ruth Shore Keyes in Ogden, Utah. He graduated from Ogden High School.
He met his eternal companion Irene Haglund on July 24, 1942 while at a roller skating event. They were married December 12, 1942, and later sealed in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple on June 14, 1944.
He served in the US Navy as a Medical Corpsman during WWII. He claims to have shot thousands of men while in the Navy, but never used a gun. He used hypodermic needles. He also never lost a patient that was in his care. He held many positions during his working career. He was a sheet metal craftsman building truck beds, and parts for aircraft at Hill Field. He has been a school bus driver, salesman, custodian, folding door installer and more recently as a crisis worker for Weber and Davis County Mental Health Departments.
He has served in many callings in the LDS Church, the longest of which was 22 years as a temple worker in the Ogden Temple. He enjoyed artwork and has made many greeting cards and shared them with family and friends. He participated in a cancer support group at McKay Dee Hospital while continuing his own treatments.
He is survived by ten children: Thair (LouDene) Keyes, Calvin (Connie) Keyes, Adel (Jesse) Monje, Tammy (Steve) Hoskins, Corinne Bingham (Kent/deceased), Cheryl (Jeff) Tilly, LaRonda Keyes, Delbert (Julie) Keyes, Vickie Keyes, and Brent (Cathy) Keyes. They also have 37 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two infant sons Kenneth D. Keyes and Marvin Dale Keyes; his wife Irene Haglund Keyes; his brother Wayne Keyes; and three sisters, Gwen Clark, Maureen Buza, and Mar Jean King.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 11 am at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 - 36th St., Ogden, UT. There will be a viewing Monday, December 15, 2014 from 6 - 8 pm at the mortuary and one hour prior to the service.
Interment in Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park.
