Karen Wilbur Hansen Jones
July 6, 1941 - August 22, 2014
Karen Wilbur Hansen Jones, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully on Friday, August 22, 2014. Karen was born July 6, 1941 in Ogden, Utah to Earl Burton Wilbur and Ada Lucille James Wilbur. Karen married her first husband, Eskild Peter Hansen Jr., in 1963, and though they later divorced, they had two wonderful children together, Eskild Peter Hansen III and Menah Christina Hansen Strong. In 2007, Karen found happiness again when she met and married Robert (Bobby) Dean Jones, and their marriage was solemnized in the Ogden Temple on March 19, 2011.
Karen attended Polk Elementary, Lewis Junior High, graduated from Ogden High School in 1959, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Utah. She was very proud of her strong work ethic, and was employed by the University of Utah, as well as Mountain States Telephone, the Forest Service, a smattering of part-time odd jobs, and the Internal Revenue Service, from which she retired after 32 years of service.
Karens great passion was horses, and she always yearned to own a horse. Karen finally achieved that dream for the first time after her high school graduation, and owned many horses from that time until her passing. She was a great riding instructor who had lots of patience and great advice.
Karen was a faithful and active member of the LDS Church. She embodied devotion, thoughtfulness, and generosity to all who knew her, and will be greatly missed and always loved.
Karen is survived by her husband, Bobby Jones, her children, E. Peter (Ann) Hansen III, and Menah (Todd) Strong, her brother, Paul James (Twyla) Wilbur, and her three special grandchildren, Colby, Carson, and Sydney Strong, who were very near and dear to her heart. Also surviving are two special nieces and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Special thanks to family, friends, neighbors, and ward members who gave their help, compassion, and affection to Karen.
