IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Karen
O' Brien
November 3, 1944 – October 21, 2025
Karen Marie Brooks O'Brien
November 3rd, 1944 – October 21st, 2025
In loving memory of our mom, grandma and great grandmom, Karen Marie Brooks O'Brien. She was born in Perry, Iowa on November 3rd, 1944, to Leslie Wayne Brooks and Alice Marie Brooks.
The family moved to Utah when Karen was young. She attended Clearfield Pioneer Elementary and graduated from Weber High School in 1963.
Karen enjoyed working for Arctic Circle for serval years, and then the Ogden School District before she retired. When she wasn't working, she enjoyed spending time with her children the most. One of her hobbies was crocheting many different things, like blankets, Christmas stockings, and doilies. She enjoyed reading westerns & murder mysteries, with James Patterson, Mary Higgins Clark, and Louis Lamour among her favorite authors. Her favorite music was Rock 'n' Roll and Country.
It might be a surprise to some of our family and friends that Karen's favorite sports team was the Los Angeles Dodgers. She also enjoyed board games like Yatzee and bingo, and card games such as Hands & Feet, Uno and Rummy. Her favorite food was spaghetti but stayed away from lasagna, always refusing the lasagna that her daughter, Alice, would make sometimes for the family. Her favorite saying to us as kids were, "You're in hot water!" "Oh my gosh!" "Oh boy!" and "If you don't like it, you can lump it!"
One of the many memories shared from growing up is that one child could ask mom for a special treat and get it, while another child was not as fortunate. As an example, if one of the children was in the mood for Karen's fabulous cinnamon rolls, they had to ask their brother Floyd to request them.
Karen was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clarence Wayne Brooks and Colista Mignon Brooks; parents Leslie Wayne Brooks and Alice Marie Brooks; brothers Clarence Brooks and Ron Brooks, and sister-in-law Nelda Brooks.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory brothers Elton Brooks of Utah, Steve Brooks (Teenie) of Utah and Roy Brooks (Judy) of California, sister-in-law Myrna Brooks. Five children, Charles O'Brien Floyd (Tammy) of Ogden, Utah, Alice Teske of California, Christy O'Brien of Ogden, Utah and Jason O'Brien (Shawn) of Syracuse, Utah. Ten grandchildren, Tyson O'Brien, Cornelia Adams, Ashley Patterson (Zachary), Kevin Adams, Cody O'Brien, Hunter O'Brien, Teagan Justice, Dakota O'Brien, Jackson O'Brien and Nicolas Hartly. Four great-grandchildren, Makayla O'Brien, Zachary LaRue, Derek Patterson and Sylvia O'Brien.
Services will be held at 1pm at Leavitts Mortuary & Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th Street, Ogden, UT 84403, with a viewing held an hour prior.
Matthew 6:9-13
Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed by thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
