Karen Hartog Pizzirani, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Jan. 30, 2025, at the age of 81 in Layton, Utah. She will be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, deep love for family, and ability to always look her best.

Born on March 7, 1943, in Ogden, Utah, to Donnell and James C. Hartog, Karen grew up alongside her brothers, Dale and Craig, and her late brother, Brent. Their relationship was built on trust, laughter, and an easygoing closeness that lasted throughout their lives. She also shared a special lifelong bond with her sister, Janet Chapman, and her husband, Gaylen. The three were always by each other's side, offering support through every chapter. A proud 1961 graduate of Ben Lomond High School, Karen cherished the friendships and memories from those early years, carrying them with her throughout her life.

Karen's greatest joy was her family. She raised three daughters — Belinda Roberts, Kimberly Morrill, and Caroline Hammer — with her first husband, the late David V. Roberts, teaching them compassion, strength, and the importance of family. Later in life, she found love again with the late Art Pizzirani, with whom she shared 21 years filled with companionship and adventure.

She was a proud grandmother to Alec Heersink (and his wife Kirsten), Connor Heersink, Olivia Heersink, Megan Hammer, and Ellen Hammer. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. The birth of her great-granddaughter, Blake Heersink, was a treasured event that added another generation to the family she adored.

Karen had a deep love for sports, particularly basketball, football, golf, and tennis. She also enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was fishing in the Uintas, hunting at Elk Park, hiking the Wasatch Mountains, or camping at Cold Springs and Old Ugly. Karen made every moment with her loved ones count — whether celebrating milestones, providing support, or simply spending time together. Her warmth and humor made every gathering memorable and brought people closer.

Karen's family is deeply grateful for the exceptional care she received at Fairfield Village and the compassionate support of Angie Favero, a registered nurse from Inspiration Hospice, whose kindness and dedication provided comfort in Karen's final days.

Karen lived life fully, always finding joy in the people and places that mattered most to her. She will be deeply missed, but her love, laughter, and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Celebration of Life:

A gathering to honor Karen's life will be held from 12–3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025 at Leavitt's Mortuary & Aultorest Memorial Park in Ogden, Utah. A luncheon will be provided, and casual attire is encouraged.
