Obituary

Ogden - Kenneth Glen Parsons, 88, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully; November 24, 2012, at his daughters home in South Weber surrounded by his loving family. He was born at home in Salt Lake City on June 25, 1924, to Glen E. and Martha Anne Parsons. Raised in Ogden, he attended Ogden City Schools and graduated from Ogden High in 1942. During World War II, he enlisted and served his country as a combat infantryman in the European Theater with the Third Army 26th Infantry Division. He participated in the Rhineland and Ardennes Campaigns and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in Luxembourg during the Battle of the Bulge.He graduated Cum Laude from Brigham Young University with a bachelors degree, composite major- mathematics, physics and chemistry, and a masters degree in education. He was a lifetime member of Phi Kappa Phi. He served as a secondary school administrator for the Ogden City School District for 35 years.His interests included camping, stamp and coin collecting, violin, viola, music, flower gardening, reading, attending family gatherings, and events for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.He married Afton Norma Shearer on June 12, 1950, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.Kenneth is survived by his five children: LeeAnn (Roger) Hunt, South Weber; Kenneth S. (Spring) Parsons, Azalia, Indiana; Wendy (Jeff) Child, Pleasant View; Cheryl (Steve) Clark, Washington Terrace; David S. (Carla), Pleasant View; twenty-two grandchildren and 16 spouses; forty-one great-grandchildren (with two on the way); also survived by his brother Robert E. Parsons (Marilyn), Orem, Utah.He was preceded in death by his eternal sweetheart and best friend, Afton, and his parents.Kenneth served an LDS mission in the Central States. He served faithfully in many callings in the LDS church, including in the Bishopric of the Ogden 45th Ward, Bishop of the Ogden 64th Ward, on the High Council, and as High Priest Group Leader. He was a faithful home teacher, which was one of his favorite callings. He was an Ogden LDS Temple ordinance worker for over 10 years. The family expresses thanks to McKay Dee Hospital, Pine View Transitional Rehab and IHC Hospice for their care and kindness.Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lorin Farr 3rd Ward Chapel, 1608 13th Street, Ogden, with Bishop James R. Losee officiating. Friends may call at Leavitts Mortuary 836 36th Street, Ogden. Thursday, November 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the ward Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.Interment at Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the LDS Humanitarian Fund or to the Utah Food Bank.Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.leavittsmortuary.com.
