FARR WEST – Kenneth Dean Schoonmaker, 98, passed away on Friday January 31, 2025 at Quail Meadows Assisted Living North Ogden, Utah.
Kenneth was born February 14, 1926 to Clarence Lester and Clara Lofthouse Schoonmaker. He was a proud WWII veteran who served 2 years active and 5 years reserve duty in the U.S. Navy.
He married Doris Vivian Ahrens July 11, 1947. The marriage was solemnized in the Logan Temple July 11, 1958. Kenneth is survived by children Kathleen (David) Smith, Lake City, Fl, Michael (Julie) Schoonmaker, Pleasant View, UT, and David (Sherlyn) Schoonmaker, Cedar Hills, UT. He was preceded in death by daughters Patricia Schoonmaker and Marilyn Layton.
Kenneth was the oldest of 7 children. He is survived by sisters Wilma and Carol and brother Charles. He is preceded in death by sisters Emily and Freda and brother Jay.
Kenneth retired as a Construction Estimator from Defense Depot Ogden after 35 years of service. He was a Master Electrician and owned and operated several businesses including Schoonmaker Electro Mechanical.
He held many positions in the LDS church including Elder's Quorum President and Ward Clerk. He attended Weber State University and had basketball season tickets for more than 50 years. In his younger years he enjoyed golf, skiing, boating, gardening and spending time with family.
Family and friends will be greeted beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday February 8th with the funeral service beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Leavitt's Mortuary 836 36th Street in Ogden. A short gravesite dedication will follow the service at Aultorest Memorial Park. .
