Obituary

Kurt Conrad Hallin Age 26 born May 24, 1993, in Concord, MA. Passed away in Mountain Green, UT on April 14, 2020. Treasured youngest child and son of Yolanda Sue Guedea and Stephen C. Hallin. Survived by his parents, his brother Karl N. Hallin (Shanna), niece Evelyn, nephew Isaac, sister Kirsten A. Gunter (Ben), stepdad Jerry Parsons, grandmother Marice Guedea, various aunts, uncles, & cousins. Preceded in death by Grandfather Rodolfo Guedea, and grandparents; Raymond and Carolyn Hallin. Lived in Bedford MA, Burke VA, North Ogden UT, and Mountain Green UT. Attended Majestic Elem, Orion Jr. High, Weber High & WSU. Kurt loved his family and relished family vacations and get-togethers, biking, and rafting trips. Kurt especially liked reminiscing about his trip to Hawaii, where he explored volcanoes, went snorkeling and flew kites on the beaches. He looked forward to the summer weekend stays up in Snowbird. He loved animals and especially his pets Sally the border collie and Odette the cat, who were privileged to spend time on Kurts lap and in his arms. Video gaming was Kurts safe place, his comfort zone and was just one of the activities where he excelled. As a younger scout Kurt spent summers earning badges and participating in events, day camps, and outdoor activities. He brought home first place trophies from his very first chess tournament in Park City, UT. Kurt enjoyed ping pong, youth basketball, and tennis, and achieved multiple levels in figure skating & speed skating. He learned to fly fish. As a youngster Kurt participated in Weber Highs production of Les Mis Kurt relished his role as a "street urchin" and gave that role his all. By production close, Kurt could sing every song, word for word. The experience fostered such a love for this musical that Kurt continued to be a fan, supporter, and attendee of all Les Mis productions, both local and professional. Kurt continued to enjoy theater by participating in Washington Terrace Playhouse productions of The Wizard of Oz, Bugsy Malone, and 101 Dalmatians. Kurt was a superb musician and trumpet player; he studied for many years with Rodney Rippon. With his ear for music and his mastery of the trumpet, it was not long before Kurts talent was recognized and celebrated: at age seventeen Kurt auditioned for, and was hand-picked, to join the Utah Symphony for the Annual All-Star Evening at Abravanel Hall and what a beautiful and proud evening that was for all of us. The concert was on the evening of Kurts 18th birthday, and we had so much to celebrate! Over the years Kurt participated in the pit orchestra for several WSU theater productions; he was lead trumpet in the local Mariachi Zavala Band; he was a member of the Bonneville Symphony Orchestra and the Ogden City Concert Band. He was a member of the Weber High Marching Band and the WSU Marching Band. He was very proud of the time he was selected to play a solo for 'Pinball Wizard'... something that likely won the state championship for the Weber HS marching band. Kurt was chosen to play the lead and solo trumpet for the Brigham City and Ogden City Annual Messiah Holiday concerts, and he played his part beautifully. Kurt was a proud member of Los Spanglos local world music trio and spent many a summer Saturday morning busking with his mom at the Salt Lake Farmers Markets. A graduate of Weber High School, Kurt completed and graduated from the Electrical Apprenticeship program through Job Corps. His last assignment was installing lighting at a new hotel in Layton and assisting in the construction of the new Davis Hospital. Kurt loved his friends fiercely and was an accepting and intensely loyal friend to those fortunate enough to know him. Anyone who could look past his initial shyness, and who was privileged to truly understand him, found Kurt to be a wonderful friend -- witty, clever, funny and well-read, with thoughtful opinions and refreshing insights on many subjects. Kurt was a gift to us, a bright star in our universe he was our theater companion, our movie pal, our music buddy, our beloved son, and brother. A celebration of life is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 30, with cremation services entrusted to Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th St., Ogden UT. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation in Kurt's name to his favorite NPR station, KUER, 90.1.
