LaMar left early Sunday morning to make fresh tracks on the snow covered slopes of Snow Basin. LaMar C. Madison was born May 9, 1931 in Ogden. The second of two children born to Edgar C. and Louise Avondet Madison. He graduated from OgdenHigh school, attended WeberCollege and University of Utah. He served four years in the US Navy serving in Korea on the USS Philippine Sea CV-47 and Adak Alaska. LaMar married Helen Hall on September 6, 1957 in the First Presbyterian Church in Ogden. He worked for the US. Postal Service, Veteran Administration in SLC, and Hill Air Force Base Metrology lab receiving the "Diamond Gold Zero Defects Award" twice for nine months of sustained error free performance compared to a thirty percent reject average, retiring after 42 years of federal service. LaMar was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, he served as deacon and enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts and the Pinewood Derby. He belonged to the Mount Ogden Ski Club where he shared his love of skiing with family and friends. He served as a volunteer Ski patrolman for 22 years at Snowbasin. During this time he was voted outstanding ski patrolman twice earning him National status. This award is in recognition for demonstrated leadership and extraordinary service to the National Ski Patrol system with a genuine desire to serve the skiing public. He has trained successfully in advanced avalanche rescue and mountaineering and served as the Avalanche adviser and hill captain. After teaching all of his children and their friends, he continued to enjoy skiing well into his 70s. LaMar was awarded the prestigious Purple Merit Star for saving the life of a motorcyclist whose bike hit a car and burst into flames and for spotting a car that had run off the side of the mountain and rescuing the passenger. He was also given a Gold Star Award for helping a hit and run victim on the side of the road. His greatest pride was his wife and family. He loved the outdoors and time spent with his family skiing, camping and motorcycle trips with his wife. Dad was an awesome teacher "most of the time", for example, one of dads favorite camping spots was Smith Morehouse. He was teaching Hally how to fish with her new fishing pole, push the button, hold it back and let it go. She did and the pole landed 25 feet out in the water. Eighteen years later he taught Hallys daughter Tiffany how to fish with the exact same outcome. Dad knew how to fix anything, such as the time Guy was living in Houston and purchased a new car in Ogden. Dad went and looked the car over and picked it up. They thought it would be a fun trip to drive it down to Houston. After leaving the cold weather of Utah and entering the warmth of New Mexico, they both had sweat dripping from their faces with the AC on high. After several hours LaMar pulled over and investigated the heat problem. It didnt take him long to find the car seat heater buttons and turn them off. LaMar is survived by his devoted wife, Helen Hall Madison; his loving children and their spouses, Mickey LaMar (Trudy) Madison, Guy C. Madison (Janet Halverson), Hally Madison Steinman, Jeffery S. (Stephanie) Madison, Amie (Ken) Rentmeister; nine grandchildren, Tiffany, Jereme (Brooke), Quaid, Brie, Madison, Jaidin, Scout, Jordan; and two great-grandchildren, Kalon and Kaylee. He was preceded in death by Maurine (Madison) and Lee Richardson. The family would like to thank the nursing staff that assisted with his daily care at the George F. Wahlen Veterans Home in Ogden. Dr. Perla Thulin, U of U Department of Neurology and Dr. Nadya Wayment for making LaMars 11 year battle with Parkinsons easier.
