Lawrence William Stimpson's Obituary

Lawrence (Larry) William Stimpson passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 1, 2015. He was born November 18, 1919 to Clarence and Lenna Stimpson in Riverdale, Utah. He remained a lifelong resident of Riverdale and as a young man spent many hours working with his father at the All-O-Wheat Cereal Mill. Lawrence attended Weber High School, Weber State College, and the University of Utah. He served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne during WWII. He retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1976 as a program analyst. He retired from the Air Force Reserve in 1979 with 32 years active and reserve service. On January 21, 1946 he married Estella Thatcher Schofield in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden, Utah Temple. They were married 59 years until Estella passed away in October 2005. He and his wife served an LDS mission in the Florida, Tallahassee Mission. He served in many church callings over the years. He spent many years traveling with the Over the Hill Sams Club making many new friends and seeing much of our country. He enjoyed rock hounding and making beautiful jewelry. For many years he spent time making beautiful scroll work clocks and other wood creations. One of his greatest joys in life was spending time with his family. He is survived by his children Dale and Sondra Schofield, Sandra and Larry Jones, Jeffrey and Rebecca Stimpson, Wendy and Charles Ashburn, 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two on the way. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and three sisters. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at 1:00 pm at the LDS Church at 4855 S. 300 W., Washington Terrace, Utah. There will be a viewing on Tuesday, January 6, at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 - 36th St., Ogden, Utah from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. There will also be a viewing from 11:30 am - 12:40 pm prior to the service. Interment will be at Washington Heights Memorial Park with military honors accorded. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS Church General Missionary Fund.
