Mickey Long passed away peacefully at Legacy House, in Ogden, Utah, a few weeks after reaching her 96th birthday. She was born in Pacific Junction, Iowa, the only daughter of Noah Harold Johnson & Nellie Pearle Purcell. She was a bright and interested student, attending schools in and around Wakefield, Nebraska, graduating from the 8th grade at age 11. She stayed home to help her mother a year and then graduated from Wakefield High at age 16, in 1936.
She attended Wayne Normal Teachers College in Wayne, Nebraska before marrying Nels Nathaniel Nelson on March 10, 1938, and living on a farm outside of Wakefield. Her husband died in 1948 and she moved herself and her two daughters, Carolyn & Kathleen, to Sioux City, Iowa. In 1950 she and her second husband, Merle A. Kimbell moved their family to Ogden, Utah, where she worked at several jobs before being hired at DDO. There she met her third husband, Frank B. Theall. Mickey retired from DDO after working as an accountant for many years. Following retirement, she served in many leadership positions in NARFE, attending state & national conventions. The Thealls had moved to Liberty, Utah.
In Liberty, two young elders of the LDS church taught Mickey & Frank Theall the gospel. She was serving in three church callings in the Liberty Ward, when she joined the LDS Church, encouraged by loving neighbors and her two daughters. Mickey loved people and was a believer in the adage: A stranger is just a friend I havent met. She herself was a good friend. Her hands were always busy doing beautiful crocheted work that she donated to various causes, friends and family.
She is predeceased by her brother, Harold Emmett, and her first three husbands. Surviving her is her fourth husband, Jean Owen Long, to whom she was sealed in the Mt. Timpanogas Temple on September 25, 2010. She leaves her two daughters, Carolyn (Paul) Thompson & Kathleen (Hugh) Hadley, their husbands, eight grandchildren and spouses, 33 great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.
