Leonard Leroy Woodward, a man whose life was marked by hard work, kindness, and dedication, passed away on April 14, 2026. Born on September 23, 1929, in Filer, Idaho, to Benjamin Harrison Woodward and Engeborg Sophia Woodward. Leonard lived a full and meaningful life that touched many around him.
Leonard was a proud graduate of Grantsville High School, class of 1949, and he held the honor of being the last surviving member of his graduating class. Alongside this achievement, he completed his studies at LDS Seminary, laying a foundation for a life grounded in faith and community.
Leonard served his country with pride in the US Army from January 1951 to January 1953. His time in service reflected his loyalty and dedication to something greater than himself.
His career was as varied as it was industrious. Leonard worked many jobs throughout his lifetime, including service stations, selling hearing aids, working in wrecking yards, and being employed at notable places such as Thiokol, Hill Air Force Base, and The Ogden City Mall. No matter where he worked, Leonard’s commitment and meticulous nature shone through.
Beyond work and service, Leonard was a man of many talents and an extraordinary spirit of generosity. He had a remarkable ability to fix and repair almost anything—band instruments for schools, bicycles, lawn mowers, snow blowers, and he especially enjoyed working on cars and airplanes. His perfectionism was not just about precision but about care and respect for the things he touched. People in his community knew him as everyone’s friend, always willing to lend a helping hand.
For over 20 years, Leonard served on the board of his Homeowners Association, ensuring the neighborhood stayed orderly and welcoming. This commitment highlighted his genuine love for his community and his desire to contribute meaningfully wherever he could.
He was married; to Alice Frances Fisher and later divorced, Nadine Wolf and later divorced, and then to his sweetheart Jeannine Pehrson.
He is survived by his beloved sister, Rose Marie Hewlett; his sons Ken Woodward (Donnette Freeland), Jerry Woodward (Joyce Pio); and his step-son Rick Pehrson (Trudy). Leonard's legacy extends through his grandchildren Janeice Sorenson (Chris Sorenson) and Jodi Olsen (Jack Olsen), as well as his great-grandchildren Jeremy, Mckaylee, Justin, Emilynn, Jace, Jon, Corey, Ashley, and Kenner, who carry forward his memory and spirit.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, seven siblings, his three wives, and a beloved grandson.
Though Leonard has left this world, his impact remains alive in the countless lives he touched, the repairs and improvements he made, and the friendships he nurtured. He was a beacon of kindness and a master of care, who reminded us all of the power of giving and the joy of service. Always had a joke and fun story to tell.
Special thanks are extended to all who made Leonard happy and safe throughout his journey. His life was enriched by community and connection.
