Linda Kay Van Shaar (76) calmly passed away on December 26, 2022 from complications due to illness.
Linda Kay Rogers was born on November 6, 1946 to Dr. Lamar S. Rogers and Johanna Elizabeth Gabler in Ogden, Utah. While in high school, Linda rode and trained Arabian horses and was named Miss Rodeo Utah (1965-66). Linda graduated as valedictorian from Bonneville High School in 1965. She earned an Associates Degree from Weber State where she studied Home Economics and foreign languages. Linda had a love of languages and learning in general and always encouraged her children in their education.
Linda married Robert Ben Van Shaar November 22, 1966 in the Logan Temple. Together they had five sons Charles, Jason, James, Steven and Jeffrey, 22 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Her family has been the focus and love of her life in so many ways.
Linda served her family, church, and community as a homemaker for several years before returning to the Internal Revenue Service where she worked in human resources until retiring.
She has always had a strong love of family and love of her Savior. She served faithfully in various positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ranging from Cub Scout Den Leader and primary callings, to Relief Society President and teacher. Linda loved being a wife and mom. Over the years she gardened, canned, sewed, and crocheted. She was self-reliant and worked hard to provide the best for her family. She also had a soft spot in her heart for animals.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Lamar and Johanna Rogers. She is survived by her husband, Robert Ben Van Shaar of Uintah, Utah, her children Charles (Angela), Jason, James (Carol), Steven (Tamara), and Jeffrey (Diane) Van Shaar, 22 grandchildren (plus 5 spouses), 3 great grandchildren, in addition to her brothers Gary (Katherine), Duane (LaRene) and Kirk (Leslie) Rogers and Tyler (Shantel) Bingham.
A memorial service will be held at 6660 S. 1775 E. Ogden, UT on December 31 at 10:30 am.
