Loren O. Gray, Jr.'s Obituary

Born in Worland, Wyoming on October 31, 1921, he completed public schooling in Sinclair and Rawlins, Wyoming, graduating from RHS in 1939. He entered the University of Wyoming, in Laramie, as a student of geology, and during the intervening summer months worked at the Sinclair refinery. On January 15, 1942, he was married to Marjorie Salisbury of Rawlins. His studies were interrupted by military duty during WWII, which resulted in his participation in the air war over Germany and satellite Countries, as a B-17 pilot in the 15th Air Force based in Italy. Following the war, he returned to the university, where he earned BA and MBA degrees in geology. In 1947, he began as a petroleum geologist with the Carter Oil Co. and Humble Oil & Refining Co. (both predecessors of Exxon). After more than 17 years as a company geologist, he returned to the Air Force as a civilian Management Systems Analyst at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, in 1964. Following his retirement from the Air Force in 1982, he reestablished his credentials and became a certified consulting geologist. He and Marjorie remained in Utah after retirement, residing in South Ogden. Loren is survived by his daughter, Sharon Newton; daughter-in-law, Lauri Gray; three grandsons; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie and son, Donald. A private graveside service for family will be held in Rawlins, WY. . Services under the direction of Leavitts Mortuary, 836 - 36th St., Ogden, UT.
