Lyman Grant Buttars Lyman Grant Buttars, 93, returned with honor to his Father in Heaven on August 9, 2014. He was born on June 19, 1921 in Dayton, Idaho, the son of David W. Buttars and Maude Shumway; the seventh of 10 children. He spent his youth in Dayton, going to school and working on the family farm. He later moved to Ogden to work for General Mills, Peavey and Conagra Flour Mills. He first married Beth Peterson on July 6, 1940, they were later divorced. On June 26, 1961 he married Patricia Mildon in Roy, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Lyman was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints in the Roy 16th Ward; where he faithfully served in many callings. He loved serving as an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple, and especially liked working with the Senior Aaronic Priesthood. He was an outstanding home teacher; rarely missing a month. He loved to golf with his temple group, working around his home, gardening and spending countless hours teaching his sons to build things in his work shop. This also taught them how to be great men. Lyman especially loved to share the fruits of his labors, whether it was something he grew in his garden or something he made with his hands. He had such a great sense of humor; he especially loved teasing and joking with others. His family meant the world to him. Lyman loved all his grandchildren; they were his pride and joy. He was so proud of granddaughters Carlie Parslow and Mikaila Buttars and his great grandson Carson Buttars as they are currently serving as full time missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a great example of service, patience and unconditional love for all of his family and friends. Lyman is survived by his wife of 53 years; five sons and one daughter; Jon (Sigred) Buttars, Leo (Margaret) Buttars, Terry (Carolyn) Buttars, Terral (Katrina) Buttars, Brad (Gayla) Buttars, and Alana (Robert) Parslow. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and five sisters. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 16th, 2014 at 1:00 p.m., at the Roy 16th Ward, 2525 W 4500 S, Roy, Utah. A viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday, August 15th from 6-8 p.m. at Leavitts Mortuary 836-36th Street, Ogden, and on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment following Funeral Services at Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park. The Family would like to thank the wonderful neighbors and ward members who spent countless hours visiting and helping to care for Lyman and Pat. They would also like to thank Dr. Merkley and his staff for many years of care, the staff of Access Home Health and his nurse Leann, for the excellent care in his final days.
