M. Neal Sniggs, 85, passed away on January 21, 2013.He was born May 26, 1927 in Paonia, Colorado to Melvin N. and Marie Tinsley Sniggs. Neal and his family moved to Washington Terrace during WWII for work at the Navy Depot. He graduated from Weber High School. Neal married Marie Conley and they had three children, Kathi Jo (Parry) Smith, Stephen (Jody) Sniggs and Nan Downing. In partnership with Ed Viterna, they opened and operated Ed Neals Cafe. He and Marie later divorced. Neal married Lois White in September; 1964. They purchased GrayCliff Lodge Restaurant from the Greenwells in 1965 and worked together for many years. They made many friends and had great customers!Neal and Lois spent their winters in Apache Junction, AZ. and their summers at the cabin in Nordic Valley that they built. They enjoyed many travels with Grandma Sniggs, Aunt Helen, his sister Joyce and her husband Don. He was a member of Community United Methodist Church. He is a Past Master of Golden Spike Lodge No. 6, and a member of Scotish Rite AFAM and a Shriner. Neal loved to golf and tell tall tales. After Lois passing, Neal and his friend, Betty Minnoch took great care of each other spending summers in Eden and winters in Arizona where they made many new friends. Neal is survived by his children and their spouses, 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Joyce and her husband Don Cunnington, and a special aunt, Helen Bailey. The family would like to thank the staff at the Gardens Assisted Living for the love and care they gave Neal. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Shriners Hospital or the American Cancer Society.Masonic funeral services for Neal will be held at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. The family will meet with friends prior to services on Saturday from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, Ogden.
