Obituary

Marie Bullock Barnes, was born in Lone Tree, Wyoming on July 17, 1913 to Teenie Malan Bullock and Evan Bullock. She had five brothers and sisters all who have passed away. As a child her father fiddled for all the dances and taught Marie to dance. She was a very smart student. As a child she wrote poetry. Marie excelled in every aspect of the Arts; Music, dance and interior design, etc.She is survived by three children, Dale (LoAnne) Barnes, Shirley (Gary)Slaugh, Connie (Gene) Wenz-Andrews, 14 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 34 great- great grandchildren. She and her husband Willis raised their family with great love in Evanston, Wyoming. Shirley has been their care taker for the past several years. Through the years they fed hot meals out of their home to homeless people and had a compassion for the under privileged. She loved to decorate her home. Marie had a beautiful yard and flower gardens. She was sweet, caring and loved children and animals and would help anyone in need. She and Williss loved to dance and were very active in the community. Dad caught the fish and they would cook and serve at the fish fries for the senior citizens and had many fun parities at the park. While Willis and Marie were raising their children in Evanston; many trips were made to hunt and fish in Sublette County. Willis and Marie had always wanted to sell their heavy equipment business and move to Pinedale. In 1955-56 their dream was realized when their youngest child Connie went to college. Marie and Willis moved to Pinedale to build the Sun Dance Motel. Willis became one of the earliest fishing guides in Sublette County. Marie welcomed guests and Willis entertained them by guiding. They had many clients who became dear friends who traveled great distances to enjoy Williss guiding and Maries hospitality.Maries husband Willis was such an accomplished sportsman, he was featured in Wyomings Game and Fish films on Fly Fishing and Fly Tying technique. The family was unaware of the honor until two of their granddaughters spent the summer working at Camp Sybille for the Wyoming Game and Fish and saw the film. While in Pinedale Marie and Willis were involved in Sublette Counties growth. When the new bank was being established they purchased charter stock to help the bank become a reality. They were also financially involved in the development of the White Pine Ski Area. Both Marie and Willis loved Pinedale and after selling the Motel they continued to return to for many years. Marie and Willis loved to travel and during the last 40 years of their lives they traveled from Alaska to Central America and the East Coast too Hawaii. They had a great life together. They were married 81 years and were the longest married couple in both Wyoming and Utah. Willis and Marie have been honored on T.V. and newspaper for their many accomplishments.
