Obituary

Marilyn Newton, age 76, passed away in Ogden on Thursday, July 18, 2013 after a short and valiant battle with cancer in the presence of loved ones. She was born August 18, 1936 in Tremonton, Utah to Edward Elton (Bish) and Mary C. Buxton Newton. Marilyn graduated from Bear River High School in 1954. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Utah State University and went on to earn her Masters Degree from Weber State College. Marilyn taught in Kamas, Utah for one year. Then she taught at Washington Terrace Elementary for 10 years. The last 20 years of her career Marilyn taught at Roosevelt Elementary, teaching 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades. Marilyn was an avid reader and loved teaching, traveling, seeing and learning about new things. She was very talented and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting and embroidery work. Marilyn was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Lelivre and Alpha Delta Kappa. Marilyn is survived by her two sisters, Sherleen (Jan) Wynn from Mapleton and Lou Ann (Steven) Bessinger from Washington Terrace; eight nieces and nephews: Michelle, Mike, Angie, Bruce, Dan, Mark, Tracy and Miriam; 26 grand nieces and nephews, one great-grand niece and two great-grand nephews. The family would like to express its gratitude to the staff at Crestwood Care Center and all of her friends there. Funeral Services will be held Monday July 29th, 2013 at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden at 11:00 a.m. There will be a viewing at the mortuary from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday July 28th and also on Monday prior to the services from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Riverview Cemetery in Tremonton, UT.
