Obituary

Mario Flores, born July 9, 1940 in Quiché Guatemala to Jacinta Alfaro and Filemón Flores, left his earth form after a long illness with a degenerative lung disease. His personality was vibrant, alive, and strong willed. His large spirit could hardly be contained in his dwindling vessel. But even so, through many difficult times, he kept his jokes and smile always at hand. His was a soul created from song and dance. His smile lightened a room and his joking was good hearted and caring.

He would be the first to say yes to a game of chess or cards, offer you a drink, or welcome you into his home. His heart was always steered towards service to others. He gave so much kindness, joy, and physical support to all those around him.

His antics, his strong opinions, his laughter, his music and his love will forever be fondly remembered in the hearts of all who knew him.

Mario grew up in Guatemala with his 8 siblings, Queneldo, Gardenia, Raquel, Antonio who were there to meet him in the spirit realm, and Mirtala, Allen Dan, Rusbel "Chube," and Narciso "Chicho," still living.

Mario moved to the United States in 1981, coming along with his brother Allen Dan and nephew Adam after their visit to Guatemala

Here he began studying English and in 1989, at English class, he met the love of his life, Maria Jacinta Dominga Alegria. Together they had a beautiful son, Eric Alfaro who was born in 1990. Eric was a light and grounding presence in Mario's life. He proceeded Mario in death in 2014, at the age of 23.

Mario loved his family; he was not only fun, outgoing and jovial, he was also gentle, caring and thoughtful. He had a mind for business and was a successful salesman in his work. Those who knew him best knew he could overcome difficulties with tremendous character and goodness.

Our Mario, we will miss you dearly. The hole we feel in our lives right now we will fill up with all the treasured memories you gave us. We know you are only as far as our thoughts of you. May you rest forever in peace, in love.

A viewing for family and friends will be held at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th St, Ogden UT on Saturday March 16th 11:00am-3:00pm with a prayer at 12:00pm.

Mass for Mario will be Wednesday March 20th at 11:00am at St. Joseph's Church, 514 24th St, Ogden, UT.
