Marisa Joy Orosco, 55 years old, passed away amidst her loving family on February 10, 2019, as it was her time to go home.
Marisa was born in Ogden, UT to Demetrio and Sofia Candia. The arrival of a girl, after four boys, delighted them so much, they appropriately named her Joy. Demetrio always said that if he ever had a girl, hed do flips. So, he welcomed his daughter to the world with the exclamation: 'Mr. Candia...start flipping!'
In November of 1983, she married her great love Daniel Orosco. Their marriage was the beginning of a lifelong adventure full of travels that began in Europe. They eventually settled in Bitburg, Germany where they welcomed their two beautiful daughters, Kierian and Cydni, who inherited their mothers strength, and quirky sense of humor.
In 1986, Daniels military career brought the family back to Layton, Utah. Marisa resumed her career in the civil service at Hill Air Force Base, alongside Daniel who was honorably discharged from the Air Force. Marisa, who was passionate about the value of higher education, proceeded to obtain her Bachelors Degree from the University of Phoenix. She spent the next 37 years as a devoted civil servant, retiring in November 2018.
Marisa treasured life and took advantage of Utahs outdoor lifestyle water and snow skiing, camping, ATVing, and bowling. She was always the life of the party, and her contagious energy and witty charm made it impossible not to smile around her. Her love of traveling continued as she had recently visited Singapore, the Philippines, and Japan with her husband.
More than anything, she cherished being a grandma, spoiling and sugaring up her seven grandchildren, who are perhaps the greatest loves of her life. The legacy of Marisa's inimitable laugh, selfless spirit, and oddball sense of humor will be fiercely guarded through them.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Daniel Orosco; her eldest daughter Kierian (Donnell) Butler, her youngest daughter Cydni (Michael) Gutierrez; her brothers Steve (Sherry) Candia and Tony (Karlene) Candia; her six granddaughters: Aaliyah 'Lulubug'; Jasmine 'Jazzy'; Lammarie 'Squirmy'; Jordan 'Boogie'; Violet 'Sweets'; Charlotte 'Charlie', and one grandson Joseph 'Flash'; as well as scores of heartbroken nieces and nephews who will solemnly miss their "Auntie M".
Marisa is rejoining her parents, Demetrio and Sofia Candia, her brothers Ronald and David Candia, and a sister, Teresa Candia.
