Obituary

Marla Kaye Syrett, a cherished daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, in her hometown of Ogden, Utah, due to congestive heart failure. Born on January 16, 1949, to loving parents Fred U. Syrett and Irene B. Hansen, Marla's life was a testament to love, faith, and resilience.

Marla grew up in the community of Ogden, where she graduated from Bonneville High School in 1967. Her passion for beauty and creativity led her to complete her education at Cosmetology School in 1968. This was the beginning of a rewarding 36.5-year career as a cosmetologist and business owner. Marla's salon was not just a place for transformation but also a hub for warmth and heartfelt conversations.

Throughout her life, Marla was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her service in the Sunday School and Primary organization reflected her dedication to her faith. When her parents' health declined, Marla exemplified selflessness and love by retiring to become their full-time caregiver, honoring them with her dedication until their passing.

Family was the cornerstone of Marla's world. She is survived by her siblings, Rickey (MaryEllen) Syrett, Janalee (Ronald) McKee, and Kaylene (Brian) Duncan. Her nieces and nephews, Ross Syrett, Wendy (Jim) Tatton, Cindy (Trent) Heiner, Kristi (Darren) Jex, Sandy (Brady) Green, Teresa (Jesse) Allen, Donna (Tim) Fischer, Natalie (Travis) Larsen, Valerie McKee, Jacob (Tylor) Duncan, Rebekah (Reece) Love, and Brandon (Jordan) Duncan, all will remember her as an influence in their lives. Marla's legacy will continue through her 28 great-nieces and nephews.

Marla loved having small children around, their innocence and wonder always bringing a smile to her face. An avid reader, Marla loved reading all types of literature, from mysteries to histories. Her hands were rarely still, as she was constantly creating beauty through crocheting, knitting, embroidery, drawing, and painting. Each piece she crafted was a labor of love, often becoming cherished gifts for her family and friends.

Those who knew Marla would describe her as loving, faith-filled, and courageous. Her strength and grace in the face of adversity were an inspiration to all. As Helen Keller once said, "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Marla's spirit and love indeed became a part of the many lives she touched.

Marla Kaye Syrett's life was one of service, beauty, and love. Her memory will be held dear in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. As we say goodbye to Marla, we take comfort in knowing that her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us. Her journey on earth has ended, but her story will be told for generations to come, a beautiful echo of a life well-lived.

The family would like to thank the staff of Rocky Mountain Hospice for the countless hours they spent caring for Marla in her last few months of life. It is appreciated more than they can express.
