Obituary

Mary Katherine Italiano Fanetti, known as Kathy to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on June 6th, 2024, at the age of 82, in South Ogden, Utah. She was born to Kate and Frank Italiano on June 11th, 1941, in St. Louis, Missouri.

She often called herself the "mean grandma" but what she was to her family, was 100% genuine, always keeping it real and giving you the tough love when you needed it most or when no one else would. Her children and grandchildren thought of her as the sweet, sassy, did not care about anyone's opinion, hard loving, honest ...really honest Poppi. She was the most wonderful wife, mother and grandmother we could ask for. She will be deeply missed and has left a huge hole in our hearts.

Kathy's grew up in St. Louis, where she worked in her parent's donut shop. She understood the value of hard work which she passed on to her family. She was a graduate of Southwest High School, Class of 1959.

Kathy met Roger in that donut shop. They married and moved to Utah where Roger was a Captain in the USAF. Kathy worked at Anita's Shop with her daughter Kandy and operated the Mt. Ogden Golf Course Concessions for three years. Her personality is what drew people to her, no matter what she was involved in.

Kathy was an athlete from a young age. She was known for playing ball with her brother Vince and the neighborhood boys, and she continued as an avid golfer and tennis player throughout her life. Her competitive spirit was matched only by her sense of fun, which she brought to every game she played.

She cherished the friendship of her Runaway Girls Group, weekly Hand & Foot Card Games with friends, and (always a good time) Family game nights. Kathy's home was a place where doors were always open to friends and family alike. Her Christmas Eves were legendary, with food, games and music.

Kathy had great memories of trips to Italy, Mexico, Hawaii, Boston, New York and many other adventures. Her favorite times were playing slots and bingo with her brother, niece Debbie, daughters and friends in Wendover, Las Vegas (where she would bring her lucky quarters) and Mesquite. Kathy and Roger also found a second home in Mesquite, where they spent winters in the company of good friends.

Kathy's legacy is carried on by her devoted husband, Roger, and her loving daughters, Kandy (Teryl) Hammer and Diane (Clint) Wood. She was the proud grandmother of Scott (Alexis), Matt (Sheena), Braxton (Shaylee), Shylee (Tahj), and great-grandmother to Spencer, Allison, Kendri, Dray, Jagger, Skylee, Cohen, Roxie, Maverick, Blakely, and Jerzee, who will all miss her deeply. She now joins her beloved parents, brother Vince and son-in-law Clint Wood, who preceded her in death.

Special thank you to Dr. Mohr and staff, Dr. Almony and staff, Dr. Jordan and the ICU team at Ogden Regional, Chaplain Jackie Ostler and Father Joubran for the care, love and compassion shown to her and her family.

Kathy's life was full of love, family, and friendship. A private family viewing and interment was held at Leavitt's Mortuary.

Friends and Family are invited to A Celebration of Life, June 25th from 6pm - 9pm at the Copper Nickel, 2450 Grant Ave, Ogden.
